Newby To Jeeps
Congrats on your Jeep! My CJ7 has the same history. I bought the Jeep from the daughter of the original owner. She had the Jeep in her family her whole life. Mine is a 79' and does not have the V8 badges, but had the AMC 304 from the factory. Also mine was a "loaded" Jeep, has all the gages, including tac, clock. Also came with a hardtop. I have looked for years, wanting a clean CJ7 . One of my children will someday inherit it. I have had many Jeeps, but my CJ7 is my favorite.

That's pretty cool. Did yours have factory A/C when you bought it? I'd like to get a look to see if the one on mine is factory or added on.

A/C in a CJ, was a dealer install. Never 'factory'.
Just like the dealer had to install the soft top.

Good to know. It'll probably be uninstalled down the road. Just one more thing I just don't need to worry about. Besides, if it's warm enough, tops coming off anyway.

Congrats, very nice looking Jeep.

Thanks everyone. I did some work on it today. Got all the old carpet out. Reinstalled thw rear gas can/ spare tire carrier. Bumped the idle up on the carb and got the gos awful chrome front guard off. Thing was huge, and ugly.

Well, the front floor boards will need usual attention. The rest is in really good shape. The front floor boards are good enough for some rust proof paint and go, but since carpet won't be going back in, figured I'd at least make them presentable.

Next is getting all this freakin add on wiring out of it, he had like three horns on this thing and a cb radio with fog lamps and wiring running every where.

Very easy to convert the A/C compressor to a on board air set up.
What I have in mine.

Congratulations on your jeep. A thorough search is always better than settling on someone else's junk. A good body and frame are the most needed parts in a jeep. If you settle on rusted out frame or body there will be plenty of future frustration

I wanted a solid start. I was standing there today and giving it a good look over. I decided that I'm going to approach this like I'm building a rat rod only it's a jeep. Not.fixing any dents etc. It is what it is.

Truer words have not been spoken. My next Jeep will be rust free. And I'll have another to use when the snow flies and salt is spread.

So true. I can show many many pics of my rusted out frame. Learn from my mistake.

It's was very easy for me to say that because I was able to pick up a virgin at the dealership that had not been abused yet. I looked at a few but they we'll beat up even by then. My only problem was I didn't have much money back then so I ended up buying the basic low end model
