I replaced the fuel pump in my CJ about 2 months ago and it was running great. I thought my problem starting in cold weather may have been just because of the cold but upon further review it looks like it is due to not enough fuel getting to the carburetor. I went through the following troubleshooting steps:

Disconnected the fuel line from the carb. On the first crank, one sputter of fuel, then nothing. Disconnected it from right before the fuel filter, no fuel ever came out. So it looks like fuel is not being pumped. Before I replace the fuel pump AGAIN I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything farther down the line in the system that might be suspect. Is there a good way to test the lines to make sure they're not clogged other than blowing through them using some aquarium tubing or something?

P.S. Yes, there is gas in the tank :)

1. Kinked line.
2. Trash in tank clogging fuel pick up tube.

Not to mention, the fuel pump might just have failed. If it did, figure out why: Bad cam lobe? Arm broken? Bad arm rivet joint.

I suspect you have # 2.

Is there any way to see if it's a clogged line (or fix it) without dropping the tank?

Try and siphon from that line. Remove the gas cap and use a 5/16" hose to try and get some suction going. Just don't swallow any gas since that stuff tastes terrible. Blowing on it first could clean out the pick up sock if it is clogged. If it runs out freely, you are in good shape. The pump can be damaged from running dry also. You could have a lot of crud in the tank requiring it to be removed and cleaned out.

Good advice!

Cool beans. I tried blowing it out and air was moving just fine. I never got gas all the way up the line cuz the fumes got to me. I'll try a new pump at napa tomorrow.

I had a simular issue and believe it or not, the clamp on the fuel line at the tank was loose. The way I found out was I blew compressed air at the fuel pump from the tank.
