Not starting

Won't start. 85cj7 with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I have a weber carb on it.. well one day I had it running good, I went out the other day to start it and it wont fire up. I got spark at the plugs, have fuel going into the carb. If I pour a little gas in the carb it sounds like it wants to start just for a second. So. What do you think? clogged jet? Or some other carb issue?

Pouring the right amount of fuel down the carb trying to diagnose a no start can be kind of tricky. Is it possible that the fuel has evaporated or run out of the carb? This can happen sometimes from a bad accelerator pump or from the bowl vents. If your spark is weak, those slip on coil connectors are just one of AMCs bad designs.

Thank you for the reply. Just got it going again. Fuel was not going into the bowl. Luckily I had a rebuild kit laying around. Replaced the needle valve connected to the float.

Good Deal! Usually if you go down the long list of possibilities, something is bound to happen.

Replace your fuel filter.
May have a leaking fuel pump.
