I am wanting an original steering wheel. Is it supposed to be with or withuot a horn? I have seen both. Right now- my wheel has no horn.

Thanks

They all should have a horn.
You might try mylittlecj for a stock wheel.

NO horn or does not work?:D

can you please post a pic of the steering column?

Trust me, there is no horn on this steering wheel and it has to go!

No horn and it looks like someone let the air out of it :D. I like my stock one too. There is a thread that shows some steering wheeel pics. I think it was Sasquach that has a really cool stock one.

Sky,

Obviously an aftermarket wheel, That probably just doesn't have the horn kit installed inside. If you decide to go back to a standard wheel that adapter will most likely also have to go.

Well, now I have a deflated sideways steering wheel

I had to take the whole steering wheel stuff off just to change the blinker lever. Got that done, but now my steering wheel that I despise is about 1/4 turn off!

I took it back off and tried to realign it- but its still doing that.

I might just drive it like it is. I'm tired of undoing all those screws/bolts.

It takes me much longer to do normal stuff you guys can do quickly, but at least I am giving the guys at Oriellys something to laugh about. I could never figure out why my new light bulb that I just put into the fog lights weren't working, then the guy came out to the parking lot where I was fixing it and flipped the little chrome piece back on that holds it in place- and it worked! some kind of ground or something IDk. But it works now. :)

behind the adapter is this. which requires the GM ring compression tool to remove

then you should see this. This is the turn signal cancel cam......BUT.....the horn is run through this . The post with the copper-looking cylinder

That is what you should still have in the column.

Cerrajero,

I don't remember seeing either of those pics- but I will take it off again and look.

I'm not sure what you guys are calling an adapter- but I guess I need to look at a jeep with a factory steering wheel to see what I don't have that I need.

Right now, I'm just driving with it sideways- which wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't flat on one side

Sky

That adapter is what you steering wheel is bolted to. There is a fine spline on that shaft that is held on by the nut. If you had it off the splined shaft before and did not put it back where it came from that's why your steering wheel is off. Needs to be marked when you take it off.
So wheels straight ahead and pull the adapter off & move it whatever direction you need on the spline to get the steering wheel straight ahead again. Might take a couple of attempts.

Is that a stock original tilt column? The parts that are being shown above look like the stock parts that are for the horn and turn signal................No Idea if you still have these or not.....The after market wheel should have came with a brass ring & spring. Go online and look at horn kits for say a Grant wheel............
Good luck.

Tarry,

I got the jeep 2 weeks ago with the steering wheel on it- so I have no extra parts.

I tried taking it off and moving it- but I guess I have to do it again. I just was tired of messing with it and left it sideways. I drove it a few hours yesterday with it like that so it's not that bad- other than looking goofy. I will try again tonight- it can't be that difficult.

I didn't have to have a special tool- so I guess whatever that piece is- I don't have it. I only used a socket, phillips screwdriver, and some screwdriver that looks like a star on the end :D

I don't have a different steering wheel yet to put on it. That's on my to do list, that keeps getting longer everyday lol.

when you flip your turn signal on and then turn.......does it cut off by itself or do you have to do it manually?

and post a pic of you driving sideways just for S&Gs:D

and here is a pick of the adapter that we are talking about

It goes off by itself.

I'll work on those pics....lol

I don't have that piece- I don't think anyway. I'll have to look again tonight and see.

Really sucks to take it all apart only to put back on a steering wheel that I hate! At least it runs- so far, so I shouldn't complain.

Sky,

Well I would suggest that since your new here and have a new Jeep, don't rush in and make changes or needless repairs until you have looked at all your options. Move the hub / adapter so the wheel is straight and drive it for a while. As far as the horn figure out what your missing and get the parts.
Unless of course you have a wheel falling off then by all means fix it.
Point is there is a million options out there for your Jeep.

I agree, the jeep world is overwhelming....

I'm fixing the steering wheel tonight-hopefully.

If I could just have it Pink- I would be much happier.

Plus a spare tire on the back, and better speakers, cig. lighter/charger, new seats- black with pink piping, new black soft top, smaller lift, cb radio, winch, new console, different wheels......:D

I better just work on getting the wheel straight for now.

I have done tons of breakdowns
I tell people that the first couple I yelled over 1000 cuss words when i was tearing down steering columns

but now after 16 years I am improving greatly
I'm down to only a few hundred cuss words
:D:D:D

Here Cerrajero:

I don't mind a laugh at my expense. :D

I didn't get a chance to fix it tonight- other stuff came up. But I can totally empathize with the cussing....

I did find this under the hood- looks like a horn to me!

I'm glad you posted your picture.........when you said a pink Jeep and pink piping well I had the wrong impression!
Looks like that last picture you posted of the column is Grant Steering parts the black little rubber ribbed part and the metal bell below that.
And yes that part under the hood is a horn. You could always do a stand alone button on the column or dash for your horn but fixing the horn is probably best. As I mentioned earlier go to the Grant web site and look at the parts and figure out what you have or do not have....

Tarry,

LOL, I am a girl. Sorry- thought you guys figured that out by the simplicity of instructions I need.

Shouldn't surprise you, I see your from Cali.
(BTW the black seats with pink piping are smokin hot) I think I seen them on quadratec.

I seen a grant one at orielly- that was all black- it looked fine to me. I'm not that picky really- I just got to get rid of this deflated one. But it was too overwhelming to figure out if I need the instal. kit - so I just said forget it. It didn't have a horn button thing I don't think. The horn in a can did cross my mind....I think it was an air horn or something. lol

I couldn't find windshield wipers to fit either

Hi Sky;

Glad to see there is a lady in the house. Welcome aboard!
Yes and I got your joke about Cali. (LOL)
Like I said before go to the Grant web site and look at there wheels and kits for horns. At least you'll see what you need or what you can get if you decided to replace the one you have. Interesting enough that wheel off road might work well because sometimes your legs / knees get banged up by the wheel going over rough stuff. Just a thought.
