I just got my first jeep ('75 CJ5 ) and am starting to dig in.

The wiring that I have is a rats nest under the dash. The Spartan turn signal switch was removed and I am trying to figure out how to re-install. I need some advise from those that have been here before.....

I am considering buying a re-wire kit and just starting over with nice clean wiring and possibly using a GM column/turn signal at the same time. I'm having trouble figuring out which harness to buy for either application.

Any advise?

Charlie

With GM column Painless #10110 I used it on my 83 and am very happy

I used the 10110 I my 83' also. Worked fine with my GM Tilt column. There are a few connectors you'll have to cut off the old harness and splice to the new. It is kind of a (76-86) fit-all harness so there are lots of extra wires you won't use. Check the bulkhead hole size on yours, I believe the 76-86 has a larger hole.

Painless is OK but expensive for a fuse block, wires and connectors.

Yours uses the Packard style connectors. Readily available from Waytek and others.

75 has a fuse block on the firewall. I have one on my 73. 73s had all individual fuses under the dash.

$200 buys a lot of connectors and wire.... Not much of a plug and play. :D

The task can be broken up into engine, headlights, tail light and dash harnesses. You an replace all/any brittle wires, terminals and connectors. Eliminate any unused wires and get rid of all those Scotch-lok corrodible connectors.

EZ wire sell a 12 circuit harness for around $160. it comes labeled every 5 inches and includes all the blinkers and hazards. It not pre terminated so if you do the head light relay upgrade ( you should ) then you don't have to cut out a lot of extra wiring that you paid for.

This is what I did, and I was very happy with the outcome.
