Hello, I did search for past threads that might help but none were specific to my problem.

My CJ was parked in the garage, not driven, for about 4 years. During that time my fiance spray painted stuff in the garage, usually with the doors shut (wtf??), and having never tarped my jeep. Any paint that was hanging in the air settled on the jeep. I didn't realize what was happening until I rolled her out of the garage to work on her. I'm beyond pissed.

Anyway, I've since found a product that successfully takes the overspray off the body, with tons of elbow grease. I have yet to find a good solution for the soft top windows. I got Maguires Cleaner, Polish, and the M18 Mirror Glaze detailer.

Yesterday after a wash with soap and water I tried the cleaner and polish with the foam pad and soft cloth that came with, wax on/wax off technique. I can barely type today. The side windows look better. It barely made a difference on the back window, which took the brunt of the overspray.

Should I just keep trying with the cleaner and polish? Is there anything else I can try to take the paint overspray off? :(

Try leaving a coat of silicone spray on the plastic for a day or so and see what that does.

Thanks. I had read elsewhere about trying WD-40. Some swear by it, some claim it will eat the plastic. Have you tried silicone spray on the plastic windows before?

YUP, I have.
Works pretty good, WD-40 would be my second choice if the silicon doesn't work.
Good luck,
LG

sawhorses
4x8 plywood
ULTRA fine polishing compound (Micro-Surface 3MG8 Micro-Gloss Type 1 Plastic Window Cleaner & Polish - 8 oz Bottle at SkyGeek.com, http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-10-P...0002VAZ34/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 or other product).
Machine buffer or rested arms...
A couple of your finacee's favorite beach towels...

Set up the saw horses, place the plywood on them, put the beach towels on the plywood, remove the rear window panel and lay on the towels. Go to work with your rested hands/arms or the compound and buffer (test a small section first). Go slow, don't burn the plastic.

Oh, and don't forget to cover the CJ with a couple of your finacee's favorite bed sheets....

Check out YouTube. Here's a sample video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuCnQnJRn7I

Thanks! I can't remove the rear window, the top is one piece so I'd have to just take the whole top off. But I'll look into that.

My fiance is a musician. I was thinking about using the studio as a painting booth.

Annndddd I'd be getting the CJ out of the garage which is a sometimes slow, but absolutely sure death for any vehicle.

I've been driving it for the past year, off and on.

I parked it 5 years ago because i was a brand new single mom and i needed a vehicle that a car seat would buckle into.

There were some problems developing at that time, too, that i didn't have time or money to throw at...single mom thing again.

But i finally got back on track last year and got her running. I tackled the overspray on the body gradually, finally getting to the soft top.

Had to sell my first CJ back in '91 for similar reasons. Was a brand new father and couldn't drive a baby around in an open topped jeep. Was a very decent '80 CJ5 . I miss that jeep today. At the same time for the very same reason I parked my Honda VF700F Interceptor, ohh the ignorance of it all! The bike was absolutely ruined when I could ride it again. Very very upsetting. Thought it would only be a few years before another CJ, that daughter is now 25 and living in Virginia. I finally did get another CJ. So, it's not just moms that find themselves in a hard place sometimes.

Yep. I'll never sell mine, though. People tried to talk me into it, but I'd never have gotten a ton of money for it. Certainly not what it's worth, sentimentally speaking. And it's already come in handy as a second vehicle when my cherokee died last month.

My son loved playing in it while it was still parked, and he loves going for rides in it now. Like a pig in **** when i drop him off at pre-k in it and all his little friends stare with their faces pressed aganst the window. Lol

When I went through the big "D" in '92. My CJ was the only 'wheels' I had for about 3 yrs.
My kids were older so no car-seat to worry about. Still-It was not the best in Winter. :D

Certainly not for heat! [emoji13]

110+* in the late summer is the norm here. Winter, at times down into the 20* range.
I'm at 2740'(ASL)altitude.

I pick up my second oldest granddaughter from high school with the Jeep. The 'kids' think it's "way-cool". Imagine the shock on their faces when I move to the passenger seat so the g'daughter can drive. None of her friends can drive a stick:D
She's been driving this Jeep since she was 12 yo.
As of this March, I have own'd this jeep for 31 years, bought it new in 1985. My daughter and son learn'd to drive a stick with this Jeep. My daughter just turn'd 41 and my son is 38.

When the kids started coming, I sold the Corvette and kept the Jeep :D
My (ex)wife wasn't too happy about that....:wtf:

I love these stories. Jeeps become a part of the family. Non jeepers don't get it.

Thanks for sharing guys. I got the feels. Really missed being a part of an active jeep community. [emoji24] [emoji2]
