I'm looking to paint my 86 Cj flat black. I want to do all the work myself. Body work is no issue for me, but how much paint i'm gonna need or if I need a clear coat. Just generally everything I need to know if I want to paint it. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks

A gal. will be all you need.

You'll want to use "hot rod black". 3 quarts is fine, once reduced, to do everything and have some left over. You can use the matching semi-gloss clear to seal the base coat. PPG, is a good brand to use, but use quality respirators designed for painting automotive paint,! ALL the chemicals in the paint and reducer/ hardener can kill you.

Any sprayers you would recommend?

"Eastwood Company" sells good quality, low cost spray guns. DO NOT attempt to use home store type paint sprayers. Auto paint must be thinned to near the viscosity of water, home type sprayers will shoot out the paint like a water gun, and melt from the thinners used.

I painted my truck with a gun from Napa.
