Hey all. What is the best way to paint my hard top. It is faded and has a few nicks. Do I need to do any special prep prior to spraying? What would you recommend?? Thanks.

I just cleaned it well, wiped it down with some denatured alcohol (takes away any grease or oil), sanded it lightly, and applied a few coats of Rustoleum using a roller and sponge-brushes.

This was several years ago, it worked perfectly and has held up very well.

Well I would have to be that guy...mine will be sanded primed and painted same as the rest of the body......however cheepjeep/cjim have a great way as well.

I personally dont advise going all the way down to the bare fiberglass, otherwise you are having to run the gambit described in Dave's link.

Simply roughing up the existing paint surface is sufficient. There's still prep work involved, but you aren't having to deal with the sealing aspect of it.

Good link by the way Dave :)
