I am currently looking at two CJ7s in my area.

1) A 1982, 100k miles, only issues is the speedometer and fuel gauge not working. In my untrained opinion that should be a easy fix, probably a cable. Asking $6500. Link is below.

2) A 1978, 150kish miles, has a oil leak around rear seal and spits out a puff of black smoke when starting. Oil leaks and faulty seals worry me. Asking $5000. Link is below.

I am favoring option one. Neither have any visible rust issues, both have bed lined tubs. Please school me on questions I should ask, things I should look out for and any thing that I should be aware of. If anyone also knows of any CJ7s for sale in the Missouri area I am looking.

Thanks

First of all Welcome to the site. It is a great site for answers.

I would have to say I like the 82. I guess that I am a little partial to the 82. I like the fact that it is still really pretty much jeep and not modified with CHEVY parts. That is just me.

Speed-o should be a easy fix, fuel gage might take a little time.

I too like the fact that the '82 is original. I am not too fond of the green color but, again that is a easy fix. I appreciate the input.

Welcome to our site daddiothree! :chug:

The 82 is pretty stock and the other is modified - you have no idea what problems you would inherit - maybe none maybe allot.

You could say the same for the 82 but at least you would inherit stock problems...

Also, the 82 price is kinda high but they don't mention non-negotiable... Cash usually speaks volumes! :)

My thoughts exactly. BTW, welcome to the site :chug:

I would go with the first one on first site, usually rear corners(yellow) are a sign of coverup... except if it is for protection... also, if youw ant to spend a whole lot more, I will sell you the silver one ;)

Good luck...

No brainer for me. The first one for sure, and I actually LIKE that color!

Oh...and WELCOME!!:chug:

Just got back from test driving the 78...I wasn't blown away by it. I think it will be the 82.

I see that the consensus is that it is over priced. I was think $6000 would be a reasonable offer. Yes/no?
