OK guys, Its been awhile so I thought I'd post an update..
I ordered and took delivery of a remanufactured AMC 304 from
ATK,there are many choices but after what information I could glean off the internet I decided to go with these guys. I hope its the right choice ,so in the meantime I went ahead and ordered a Centerforce 2 clutch and pressure plate also picked up a Holley 350 carburetor. I'm going to start reassembling and hopefully everything goes smooth and motor turns out what I hope it will be.
I also ordered a matched set of gears from Bull tear for the cam and dizzy.
I'll keep you all updated

Pictures please? :D

Holley 350 CFM carb.. thats a tad small for a AMC 304 .. isnt it?

Its the holly replacement carb for my stock 2 barrel carb.
Mine was the original that came on the AMC 304 and it was starting to give me trouble despite a rebuild..I guess a 4barrel carb would give me more juice but I would have had to replace the intake manifold.

I had replaced my radiator some 15 years ago and looking at it I see some evidence of slight leaking even though it never really obviously leaked that I know of.
I found some replacement aluminium radiators for around 200- 250 bucks and I was curious as to weather they are a good choice or if I'd be better off refurbishing my old 3 core?
Cost wise it would more than likely cost in excess of 100+ to do this and I was thinking it might be better to just get a new one and be done with it, any opinions on this issue?
I'm not really sure how efficient aluminum rads are.
I am installing a high volume water pump in the engine. Also is it better to have a cooling fan or go with the regular engine fan?
I will start assembly this weekend so I have some time to decide these issues I was just wondering what you guys thought.. thanks in advance.

I have no real world input I to using an aluminum rad. As long as its from a reputable manufacturer id have no problems running one.

For the fan.. I'm going to use a Ford Taurus electric fan only because I have 2 laying around and my mechanical fan was destroyed in the accident. As long as you stock fans thermo clutch (can't remember the right name) is working right, your blades are good shape and you have a good fan shroud then your mechanical one will work fine.

Thanks Jimbos76cj..I appreciate the input....by the way I found a holly 500cfm two barrel carb on line yesterday..but I already took delivery of the other one so I'll probably just run it..I hope I don't regret that decision.. anyhow thanks again..

The smaller carb will give you better fueling at lower RPM. Nice if you off road at a slower pace. Higher RPM horsepower will suffer somewhat. The 350cfm will work well on the street.

I guess that's OK..I'm really an easy driver..I use the jeep around the ranch for chores..pulling logs for firewood ..hauling whatever...and of course for hunting and running the trails in Washington State...Gas is a consern as the little woman and I are attempting to reach some degree of self sufficiency and it is something we have to purchase...
I'll also be mounting a snowplow on the cj to reduce the amount of labor in the winter..but all that being said I usually run fairly low rpm..thanks for your input.

To be truly sef sufficient you need to set the motor up to run it on methanol.. Then use a process known as distialtion to make your own Methonal from corn and sugar. It seems to be pretty easy to make and there is several shows on now about the distiallation process. But you need to be carefull since methanol production is obained at a temp just below alcohol produtcion.. so if you were to heat up your fuel to much you would get a nasty byproduct called alcohol.. aka moonshine..

I've kinda looked in to some of that..the little woman makes hard apple cider..we may experiment in the future with some form of alternative energy..
I picked up an engine stand to facilitate my engine assembly so it should be on by this weekend..

Hey guys, I ordered an aluminum radiator from Champion and received it yesterday. I also ordered a fan shroud,16 inch fan and relay .I have the motor in place, Installed the Centerforce 2 clutch and bell housing .All and all the reassembly is going pretty well.I'll be ready to put the Transmission probably in the next few days.
OK well here's my question if anyone can help..
I have to install a thermal sender for the radiator fan and though there's a great spot in the intake manifold, will that give me a true indication of the motor temp or does it need to be in the water jacket itself...any input would help ..the instructions included did not specify but did mention the intake or cylinder head depending on your "application"...
I am not real clear on exactly what that means
