Problems with Carb throttle return spring... help ID?

I think I've been told I have a Carter carb on my 79 CJ5 , 6cyl.

Today I was driving and it did the usual random bog down and die coming to a stop. When I went to restart it, it started like it always does only this time it was idling WAYY high, like if I was holding the pedal all the way down. So I shut if off, checked the throttle cable and pedal, all was good then looked at the carb, since I assume its the reason for all my issues, and noticed it wasn't putting the throttle "back to zero", even if I push it back by hand, it still goes open as if I was pushing the gas pedal.

Driving it back home was interesting but I got it, if anything it was nice as a cruise control, but its FAR from safe. So now it's in the garage awaiting for someone to verify what's up with this thing now.

I circled in green the spring I THINK it is, but may be wrong. Also, the arrow is pointing to one of the air/gas adjustments, I just don't know which one it is, if I know that it would obviously tell me what the other one is.

If anyone can verify my decision on it being the return spring, and also a link to where I can buy one, would be great. I haven't checked with the local auto parts store because I'm not sure if thats it, just wanted to check with the Jeep-CJ.com guru's.... THANKS!

The way I see it you don't really have a carb return spring installed. What you have marked is a basic return spring but not much of one. I would suggest look around like on the net for pic of a carb return spring like this one:

Sorry I can't send you a pic of mine since I have a throttle body injection. I would suggest you go down to the auto parts and pic one or two up. and mount it so you get full travel of the throttle shaft, without it binding up.

I wonder if the spring just came off completely? I'll ride my bike down to the stop sign it happened and search around if I can find one... I've been debating on replacing with a completely new unit just to rule out any other bugs

Well after looking at some old pictures I've never had any type of spring other than the one in question that I marked with the green circle.

On my throttle body, I do have a spring like yours, but it is not very effective. So it was overriden with an outboard spring. Plus I carry a spare and have had to lend it out to friends on the trail when theirs went bad.
