Project Tub Swap

Project Tub Swap
Yeah, I sent them 3 pictures of the rig, they published all 3 over the years... it is great to see pictures in mags that I forgot about sending in.

I did just send in the Silver one, so we will see what happens.

When this RED one is done, I hope to send in a picture of it at Moab when the customer goes out there, that would be a cool one to frame and throw on the wall... someting I built drove out/back to Moab and wheeled... not too bad of an accomplishment.

Still working a few NV3550 tranny swap bugs out, but I am down to only 2... and waiting on some parts that were back ordered.

I picked up a set of doors as well, they are in pretty nice shape... a little surface rust, but not too bad over all.

Wife was in the hospital for pain in the back, thought it was a kidney stone, but apparently it was a strain from doing too much being prego... less the 2 months and counting....

Bodywork started. I hate taping things off, but it has to be done... passenger side is sitting in primer, then I got called away... rear shaft came in last night so today I will try that out.

Looks like you are making some good progress. :)

Wow that red is bright! and it looks great:chug:

Safety Red Rustoleum... when it is first applied without the clear, it is crazy bright...

I did a lot today, have to get the pics up, but food is on my mind... beer also... then there is this, then there is that... so much to do, not enough time.

Got more done today, but I am off to infant CPR class for the upcoming blessed event in 6 weeks.

Basically the fender flares are back on, so are the rock sliders, and the dash is hanging in place, got the brake booster in, but it is a YJ one so I need some couplers, banged out some fender issues and started prepping for more painting this weekend.

I hope to have it running on Sunday night... maybe... after that it is just bolting it all back together once the color is the same!

More pictures will be up later on tonight but right now I have to jump in the shower and get to that class!

Dash is 1/2 way in... other things are moving along as well. Today should be a good day in terms of getting more things stripped down for paint and hopefully getting the dash all the way in and the steering column in.

I plan on putting in a bunch of hours before Sunday night, so hopefully we will have a Jeep that starts by then!

Dash is in, so is the column, the windshield and other misc stuff. Today I was able to replace the front brakes and the hubs and do other misc stuff. Tomrrow should be a big jam day on it and hopefully we will be pretty close to completing this phase by the end of tomrrow... we will see

He had some scraped up legs from the herc while he tapped all the holes for the interior going back in. I hope to wire up the engine bay on Saturday after sanding and painting the driverside fender. Once that is done, we just have to put the rest of it back together and give it a try... it has come a long way...

NV3550 swap, YJ brake booster upgrade, hydro clutch, winch, front bumper setup, new pitman arm, new front brakes and hubs, new rear drive shaft with u-bolts, new shocks, stainless lines for fuel/gas, new rear seat, new family cage, all new wiring via painless, new H4 ligh conversion, and much much more with regards to the frame and body!

Man! You sure do make good progress! Makes my sorry butt look slower than I am! :)

The red beast is outside... sitting next to my silver one here.

The silver one is on 33's with about 6" of lift, so you can see how the 35's and the larger shackles really put the other one up there.

We are getting a clunking sounds from the Transfer Case though, so I was trying to figure it all out... the TC has 200K on it, so I am sure there is some slop.

I still have work to do, I have to make a custom tranny cover... driving without one of those is very WARM!

oil/volt gauges were so so, so new ones were ordered up... those will go in this week...

by Sunday it should be out of here... almost 3 months to the day... lots of time and effort was put in to this! About 450 hours worth, so just think, if you are having trouble with your project, it takes time/patience, and of course $$ doesn't hurt!

She left to go back to her home... I still have some misc stuff (doors, tc rebuild, glove box, etc.) but all in all, it is up, running, and has had 500 miles put on the Transmission thus far... so things are good!

Here is me tailing him down the highway
http://www.certifiablejeep.com/images/curtisjeep/page14/large/100_0783.jpg

Here is the silver one and the red one sitting next to one another... the silver one is on 33's with 5.5" of lift, the red one is just that much higher with the lift shackles and 35"s

Nice shots of letting the red one go... :)

You did a great job!

BTW - The louvers in the orange one look great! :)

You should have seen the looks... bright Orange one on 33's with 5.5" of lift and a bright safety red one on 35's with 6.5" of lift... so many thumbs up and kids with their mouths wide open... everyone was impressed with us rumbling down the highway at 60 mph...

he has since had it aligned and tie rod replaced along with rebalance of 2 of the tires due to weights knocked off and he says it is very nice and tight now... pretty cool.

Next up, the doors and a Dana 300 rebuild for it... his case has 200K+ on it and it is a bit sloppy, so I picked up a donor, will rebuild that and then swap it in when he comes back to get the doors and the hard top... piece of cake... yea right... oh yeah, I found a glove box lock/door as well, so that is next up to do.

If there is one thing that I always enjoy - it is the great looks of admiration that other give when they see a CJ running down the road! :) It's like the little kid comes out in everyone when they get a look at the Jeep...

Agreed, there was a RED CJ5 in my town of Bedford the other day turning into a shopping center. I stopped and admired and was bummed because I was in my truck picking stuff up and didn't have my 5 with me to follow and compare... bummer, because they probably live around here and there aren't too many nice 5's left up this way!

Rarely do I see any CJ's anymore up North... they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

cb

Next up for this project is a rebuild of the TC as well as redoing the doors with new paint and new seals/weatherstripping... that should start next weekend, I need a weekend off(says my wife)!
