I have a 79 cj with a 390, GM Turbo 400 , and QuadraTrac . I boight it knowing it needed a chain and had it replaced. After probably 200 easy miles it syarted jumping again and one i i took the jeep out, git on it just a bit and the chain broke. I searched and search the local area to find an old school shop and the only one i found who seems to know what theyre talking about is open air jeep in norfolk virginia which is about 6 hours from where the jeep is.

About 3 month ago i got a contact of greensburg machine and drive in greensburg PA which is about 45 min from the jeep. I took the transger case off myself and took it to them. 2.5 months later i get a call and they say their parts dealers say the chain has been discontinued for a 2 years!??

I just need to find a place that can look at my jeep, say here is what you have, and this is what you need.

Pitt, PA area. Please help. This thing has been sitting for over a year.

Welcome to the site Doggie. :ww:

I would ask the shop if they tried a google search for the chain... I did and a number of results popped up from the normal suppliers like Morris, 4 Wheel Parts etc.

Now it may be that they are all old adds and litterally you can't get the chain, but I'm thinking they could always build it for you with a chain you supply...

I also took a quick look at the page for these transfer cases on Novak's website and found that there are some milemarker upgrades to the case, and Novak does have provisions to help swap the QuadraTrac case to the Dana 18 if that would work better for you...

Thanks. Yes there are only two options here. Go with a part time kit or replace the differential gears within the QuadraTrac . There is only one company that sells USA made parts, that BJ's. ALL OTHER parts are JUNK! The QuadraTrac is easy to rebuild. It's definitely a DYI project. Feel free to pm me if you need more help. My build link below has some of the information in it.
