New here and had few questions. There is a threaded hole right side rear. Wondering what it's for? Also marker on one side but not the right side where whole is. It's a welded square not looks factory done. Any help appreciated! PS it's 78 jeep base CJ7

Welcome,

I know what it's for, but I'll give someone else a shot at it.

:ww: :dbanana:

Have to say-A couple more pictures would help.
Could be a missing bolt, like the ones next to it.

Side mount spare tire bumper attachment point. No adjectives in that sentence. Wow.

So you believe it's for side spare? Really can't find any info on side mount CJ7 . I thought too it's for spare, but the rear has the factory one. I would think there would be more holes for mounting tire on side. Thanks John

I do not think, that it is for the spare, side mounted spare
was not for 7.
And if the side marker is missing as well, maybe somebody used
a 5er panel to weld it in for rust repair?

^^^ this, and most likely a mid 76 to mid year 78 CJ5 original panel. Mid 76 and down tail gated CJ5s had an indent where the bumper pad fasten to.

Mid year 76 and down used a metal bumper pad and mid year 76 and up used a plastic bumper pad.

As Lutry mentioned no 7 came with a side tire carrier. IMO, Technically Steve is correct as well.

This came off my 78 CJ5

The 2 bolts pictured in the first post have metal sleeves to protect against dimpling the body when fastening the bolts, the holes are not threaded.
