Correct:)
Im guessing it probably referenced with something like a Rabbit or whatever else they were building around then.

AMC used parts from everywhere. A lot of the mid-80's radiators are stamped Ford and also parts-reference with Mustangs of all things.

Yep - carburetors & starter motors were Ford (MotorCraft, Autolite), Distributors were Delcotron, automatic transmissions were very often Chrysler A727s, the list goes on & on.

On the other hand, International Harvester (IHC, the BIG-truck guys) used AMC 401s in lots of their trucks - IHC called it the 400. So... what comes around goes around. :D

Thanks, Dave - I haven't been cruising any forums lately, been past my eyeballs in bein' busy. I get 'minders of this thread via email, so when I get one I pop back in to see whassup. :)

Very very noisy before disassembly. :)

Here's another picture of the same part

Anyone know what it is?

exaust donut

Dang - my brain kept insisting that I had HANDLED one till the second pic where I saw that it's METAL (I was sure it was rubber). Now I don't believe I HAVE...

It looks for all the world like a lightweight stamped steel ball-bearing race to me, but I can't think what scale it is or where it might fit.

Could have been a tire liner if it was rubber, too...

Phone a Friend? :) :) :)

Gentlemen

I believe that is a pinion crush sleeve. It is used on final pinion gear torque to set the final preload on the pinion bearing as opposed to the bearing shim process.

Interesting thread.
