OK, Currently I don't own any CJs, just a couple of ZJs, but I've owned several CJs over the years, all AMC 304 's , and all 3 spds. which is why this listing on Ebay caught my eye.

Jeep : CJ Jeep : CJ | eBay

You guys have to check this joker out. Like I said, I'm by no means a CJ authority, but I do know a 401 was never a CJ option, and that a 4spd. was never available behind the AMC 304 until what 1981?

Anyways, check out this guys listing, He has it listed as a factory 401 4spd., and was adamant in his original listing that this was the case, going as far as claiming that "These Jeeps were called "Super 400's" by AMC in their advertisements." Anyways, he apparently took a lot of :dung: about this listing from "people in the know" , and had the vin checked out, and now concedes that the vin shows that it came with a AMC 304 , however this guys like a cat, he keeps landing on his feet.

Here's his new description :

"According to VIN this CJ came with a AMC 304 V-8 and I believe the original owner had the dealership install a warmed over AMC 401. As you can see from photos the install is super clean and this motor looks like it belongs in there. AMC called these 'Super 400's' in their advertising."

If you go down to the bottom of the page and check out the Q&A , he forgot to edit that too. That was before he had his "epiphany"....

I won't even get into the photos of the Jeep itself, however be sure and check out the pics of the underside. Somebody decided to "bomb can" the steering, axles, leaf packs, etc. but then figured it looked too obvious, so they took it out and ran it through some puddles. The shot of the frame rail, you can tell was just painted, as there's a glaring missed spot (Frontside of left most body mount, and you can see the fresh overspray on the underside of the tub and on the muffler.

Anyways, Don't take my word for it, go check this :dung:box out..... And for only $13,500 it can be all yours. A dealer installed "Super 400" ! AMCs answer to the Yenko Camaro........

The 401 was never installed in a CJ from the factory. However, back in the day the dealership would install a 401 as an option on new CJ's.

Well, he is a "Top Rated Seller", so he must be telling the truth

Last night this CJ went on eBay and within an hour you saw it. You had to tell someone so you joined Jeep-CJ.com to tell us all about it, saying:

This is your first post, to sell us someone elses Jeep? I'm willing to bet you are the seller.
It originally had a AMC 304 but someone put a 401 in it. Is the claim that the dealer put in that 401 the reasoning for the outrageous price of $13,500?
Look at the dash. Plywood to cover the gap around the steering column. Rubber missing off the pedals. The jeep isn't worth half the asking price.

Did you read the title of the thread moron? Let me go get it for you,

"RARE 1979 CJ7 FACTORY 401ci BIG BLOCK V-8 4-Speed"

My point in posting this listing here, on the FIRST CJ forum I found was to show what type of Charlatans are swarming Ebay trying to prey on the grossly misinformed......

I posted it, to share it with CJ Connoisseurs, that could appreciate the hypocrisy of the listing.

As I mentioned above I owned CJs when I was a teen, and they were fun for what they were, but being into ZJs now, I hang out at the forums below.

If you have any questions about my integrity, check my user name at

North American Grand Cherokee Association , or theSPEEDFREAKS.net

Both ZJ forums by the way.

Again, the sarcasm in my original post wast lost on this guy, perhaps if you go read it again, slowwwly this time. It'll get through that thick melon of yours......

As for this heap not being worth even a quarter of $13,500, You're learning grasshopper, you're learning..... Keep paying attention and all my work here won't have been in vain.

Unlike most sites, we don't call other members ANY names here - I don't tolerate it - that is my only warning.

I had doubts about your post also so I back tracked your IP to make sure it matched with your user name and location when you made the post. Only I can do that, members just have to go with their gut. Your post looked like an ad (that is why I checked).

No one called you a name, just had a doubt. You profile didn't add up to a CJ owner but I did find you on a Cherokee forum and that is why I checked.

So, this will be the end of what I hope won't continue.

But have you ever heard of a "Super 400"? That's what this joker is claiming that AMC referred to these 401 Jeeps as in their advertisements.

I just can't help but wonder where the lister came up with this :dung:....

Delusional mind? -2RUDE

CJ, You have my apologies if I was out of line. But do me a favor here...

Did my original post look like I was actually endorsing this guy, or the heap

he has listed? I'm an extremely sarcastic person, I thought I came across as

such. I mean cmon, where did I say one positive thing? Just sayin....

Thanks, -2RUDE

But have you ever heard of a "Super 400"? That's what this joker is claiming that AMC referred to these 401 Jeeps as in their advertisements.

There was a "supper Jeep" package in 1973,

The Story of Jeep - Patrick R. Foster - Google Books

Page 149 / AMC 150 , but didn't come with a AMC 401. It was mostly a decal / "looks" package from the Limited info I can find.

It was only offered in 1973.

I believe FACTORY wise, the 401 was only avail in other Jeep Models (Not CJ).

1975 and 1976 Jeeps: CJ, Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Pickup

So to your point, yes the guy is trying to sell something he really has no clue about. In all reality, It very well could have been a isolated advertizement, from a dealer, at some point in time, and since the AMC 401 was technically around then, and fits where a AMC 304 will go, it very well may have been a "special" dealer option, where some whitty salesman decided to use the term "Supper 400" Though that is more commonly referenced as a Rock band these days

Here's another for your enjoyment :

Jeep : CJ Jeep : CJ - eBay (item 190603742054 end time Dec-10-11 13:09:39 PST)

Nice Jeep, but waaaay overpriced. See if you can pick out all the flaws and

inconsistencies in the pictures. I found quite a few.

Oh, and the reason I'm sitting around trying to find ways to amuse myself such

as this? I broke my ankle and can't do much currently other than sit around

and veg. I might hobble down to the garage here shortly and see if I can get

something done on my 98

No apologies needed, and yes - I was a little leary of the post. That is why I checked the IP, your provider and such to make sure you were not the business in AZ that was selling the vehicle.

Nothing against you, it's that CJers (as you know because you owned one) are a pretty tight group. We always look out for each other and since you had only one post and did not have a CJ in your profile it looked a little weird.

If you feel like staying around, chatting or even sharing your knowledge you will be welcomed. If you need some info on a CJ, give us a shout, we will be happy to help and have a beer with ya also. :chug:

Interesting..... Thanks for the reply, I have heard of the Super Wagoneer,

which I believe was the pre-runner to the Grand Wagoneer, but I believe the

Super Wagoneers all had the 327 if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks, -2RUDE

I don't have glasses, so I cant read the wording

While searching for this "supper Jeep" I did find a nice shot of a CJ in action... Can never have too many of those floating around...

CJ, I am not putting gas on the fire, I just think this was a little riduculous from someone new that has experiece on forums.

So, actually, IMO, this should have been to Dave as well, he is a very well respected member here and has helped many, many people.

And just so you know, it may be cool to the XJ guys that know you, but your name alone sounds like you were here to make trouble. We really don't know, maybe take pride in being 2rude, or maybe there is a legit reason for called 2rude. But you were very upset that he questioned you, yet you were doing the same to someone else. Albeit you were passing along info, if that seller really didn't know better or was sold on thinking it was special, you are now defaming him.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not sticking up for this guy and have no idea if he is legit or not and we've all seen people overpay before, but unless you are the Ebay police you might be overstepping your boundaries.

Now on topic.... I'm sure you know, there are all kinds of options and packages from the factory or dealers doing special editions. This has and still continues to confuse people. As a matter of fact, Dave and a couple of others guys are working on a thread for those to be identified and I am sure it is no easy task. :chug:

Um, I glazed over this cause Cj replied but this to me is unacceptable. There are times that sarcasm doesnt interpurt well over the internet especially when its ones 1st post. :wtf:

Youd be lucky to have that "thick melon" :(. You wouldve already known that a 4spd was offered from the factory before 1981 behind an 8 cylinder.

"All your work here?" Wow! :( I for one am very sorry you broke your ankle. Get well soon.
