Im surprised that its not a more common problem as you noted their just crimped on
 
Good fix and I have done the same as well. If anyone wants to do this and doesn't have a TIG a MIG is ok. I always have a spray bottle handy to cool right after the tack.
 
Mig and Franks Red Hot...I put that :dung: on everything🤪
Old Jeeps, welders, and spicy snacks (maybe some spicy language as well) go hand-in-hand.
