Rebuilding a 28' deck trailer

Dragged home my winter project today. It is a 28' deckover trailer that I plan on using to haul my CJ7 and my son's YJ. Currently, the trailer is in need of some frame repair/replacement along with the axles completely gone thru. Then I will rewire and replace all the lights with LED's, add in auxilary backup lights and install a winch.
Going to stay with the deck over setup, but instead of a wood deck thinking the open center style with metal on the sides where the Jeeps drive. Hope to add storage in the front center along with turning it into a dovetail style. Will have to build a set of ramps as it currently does not have any at all.
So, has anyone ever done something like this? From a few builds I have read on the internet, it seems to be quite advantagious $ wise to build/restore a trailer than to purchase one complete. Plus there are not that many bumper pull style trailers that will haul two rigs to the trails out there.
Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? All are welcome from fellow CJ owners who may have more knowledge on this subject than myself. Or even just a fresh viewpoint on the idea.
By the way, the price of the trailer was free, so extremely hard to pass up. The axles alone are worth dragging it home as they both have electric brake setups. Even in the condition it is in now (needing repairs to the frame), it towed home straight and true at 60+ MPH for over 80 miles today. So I think it has potential.
