O.K. I will help keep this post alive. I remember when there was no emissions testing in Ca., Which began in 1966 and was quite basic. I remember working at a gas station and selling gas for $.19 a gallon in 1969 or so.

I remember working at a gas station and selling gas for $.19 a gallon in 1969 or so.

Okay, I can't beat that one but I do remember when gas rose over $1 and many pumps could not register that much. They would show something like $0.52 per gallon and you'd have to pay twice the price on the pump.
I also remember when I first started to drive. My Dad would give me his Phillips 66 credit card and tell me to fill up the car. When I did I would sometimes sign my name. Sometimes I would sign his. I then asked Dad who's name to sign and he said "I guess you should sign your own name. Never say you are someone you are not". The gas station never cared. They always got their money.

I also remember long after that, maybe in the 80's a TV report where people would go into a jewelry store with a handful of credit cards to buy expensive watches and jewelry. When the first card was declined they would give a credit card with a completely different name on it. This would go on until they gave a card the was able to go through. Then the thief would walk out with thousands of dollars of merchandise. The store didn't care because the credit card company paid for any fraudulent charges. The thief didn't care because it was robbery without consequences.
This reminded me of the movie scene in the movie of "The Jerk"

I remember decades later when the entire credit card number was printed on your recipient. These were carbon copies of your credit card as it passed through a credit card imprinter. These recipients were thrown on the ground or in the garbage.

Not understanding why people were upset about Martin Luther Kings death and later I remember understanding.

I remember Huntley and Brinkley on the news.

Perfectly good helicopters being pushed off the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Holding up my right hand and saying, "I will defend the constitution of the United States"

A nurse from a mentally retarded ward saying, "We found your brother dead this morning." Dad saying, "your Grandfather died last night" ..... "Your Grandmother died this afternoon." "Your Uncle Gray Died today." and a call from my step mother, "Johnny your father died tonight."

I don't remember the Cobra Terrorist Organization.

I do remember the Symbionese Liberation Army and the Los Angeles shootout.

For weeks all the grownups would say, "The SLA shootout...." and I thought they meant South Los Angeles until my uncle explained it to me.

It happened in Compton and I was living in Carson at the time and if you don't know the area, it's only about 5-10 miles from the house where I lived to the scene of the gunfire.

I remember when, In southern California, we had earthquake drills in elementary school.

The teacher would be going through the lesson, or writing on the chalk board, when suddenly he or she would loudly shout, "DROP!"

We'd get under our desks by using the backs of our thighs and the fast straightening of our knees to launch the chair backwards, we'd put our heads and our knees, shins and bent-backwards feet on the floor, covering our necks with our cupped hands.

I swear the third grader in front of me, regularly tried to launch his chair with enough force to injure me.

The teacher would then walk up and down the ranks of chairs, correcting improper hand placement, body position etc. Then we'd get up and continue like nothing had happened.

I remember when up until the mid '50s in elementary school there were "civil defense drills" where we would get under the desks to protect ourselves from possible bomb and missile debris. This should probably be coming back, if it hasn't already.

It's back in my area. The kids at our schools have multiple types of drills. Including one for a Columbine type of situation where all of the kids huddle in an area furthest from the door where they cannot be seen through the window. Crazy.

Well, as late as March 2nd, 2016, the current publication - which replaces a 2013 version - shows they are still doing the earthquake drills, as well as lock down/shelter in place, fire and "take cover." In the '70s, we didn't have "lock down" or "take cover" (see page 2).

If you see value in the policies Los Angeles Unified School district as set down in writing, and if you think your kids' schools could use info in it, there isn't anything stopping you from showing it to the local authorities.

Remember when roller skates had metal wheels and Volkswagen Beetles were called "pregnant roller skates" for the similarly sounding Beetle engine made?

I haven't seen a Type 1 or 2 in a really long time, but I saw some hipster looking guy pass my house on classic roller skates and I looked around for a VW Bug.
