Remember your first CJ?

Wow you guys are killing me with these memories,

My First & only is this 1965 CJ5 (picture) Bought new in late 66 from the dealer in Oakland,Ca.. I'm thinking it was around $1800-$2000. Had a 4-banger in it with a 3 speed and Warn OD. Drove it four a few months then the Marines thought it best I went to the Nam and play with there toys.
Fast Forward: Been in storage for 28 years that picture is just after we unloaded it off the trailer in January. Has 27k original miles on it and has been upgraded a few times , now doing a frame off. Seen plenty of service off road in Colorado,Wyoming,Nevada,Utah,hunting Mule Deer even been through the Rubicon twice back in the seventy's. Looking forward to getting the ole girl back in the high country.

Wow, storage for 28 years and 27k original miles. That's awesome. It looks great even before the frame off. Are you putting the build online anywhere?

Yes , It does look pretty good , It was in a heated no sun light garage at my buddy's shop and although it leaked oil from every seal and had two low tires and 1 flat, there was not any spiders webs, mice droppings nor any signs that it had been sitting that long. Quite honestly I was shocked myself how long it had been there. All the rubber & wires including the 30 year old tires looked like new although there getting replaced. Had it been exposed to sun light I think a lot of it would have deteriorated.
Last licensed in 1984/85
I do agree I should do a build online.........not really sure the best way to do that, cause there is a ton of pictures of work being done but will look into that or maybe someone from here will steer me in the right direction.

keep'em coming, my 76 originally listed for $4676, special ordered. Was not to much special except for the 4.10 gears and "turtle shell type" graphics over orange paint. Wish the T-18 was on that list!

Looking back $5400 was way too much to pay for a stripped down CJ5 but this was before I learned to deal with car salesmen.

My first Cj was a '65 CJ5 that the forest service owned. In the many years that it was in service, it aquired very few miles (trailered in to the woods) but the body was absolutely beat up. My father in law and I got our hands on this thing and straightened every piece of metal on it...in the end it was pristine.
I sold it shortly after purchasing my current CJ7 .

Will I still like my little CJ5 I guess it would be nice to have a little more leg room and insulation and even a heater for that matter, but she's been part of the family for so long she's not going anywhere. I'll get a heater in her this time around and a few other things she lacking ,but I think of where I have been with it and she's a tough old girl.
I see your from Twin Falls, use to spend a lot of time up there until my friends got older and moved south ,they still summer there in there Condo on the Golf Course. Hunted ducks on the Snake River over in Burley, Hunted Elk up North and Deer down around Jackpot and in the Jarbridge area between there and Nevada. Quite honestly I love that "Magic Valley" Area. I'm sure its changed some but it was always my second home. Still know a lot of farmers up that way and have a key ring full of keys to gates. Need to get back up there someday.
