I have a 1977 CJ7 in which the air injection system is rusted out. In reading the forums it seems that if I remove it, it can lead to problems in the catalytic converter.

I can't seem to find this part anywhere (anyone have a link?)

Should I replace it if I can find the part or should I risk removing it?

Also, if I do remove it, how does one cap the holes? Just purchase a bolt same size and screw it in?

Thanks for any advice/guidance.

I would think repairing them would be a good bet as air is pumped into the hot valves to cool them off. It also makes for cooler combustion chamber temps.

I would repair them. The spiders are available and they are not cheap. Willys Works has'em. I believe they are OEM old AMC stock. Call Rob at (520) 888-5082

An interesting fact about the spiders. In a V8 there are only 7 spiders. The drivers side only feeds 3 out of 4 exhaust ports. From what I can tell they didn't want to bother going around the dip stick for the back cylinder and simply capped the line. Idon't know if they cooled the valves, but I know they supplied extra oxygen to exhaust for the cats.

How strict are the emissions laws in Canada?

:ww:

IF you have no emission laws to deal with. Just use a steel pipe plug to fill the holes left in the manifold, when you remove the injection tubes.

I plugged mine. Here are some pictures:

I got all the plugs from Home Depot. The top ones were galv. pipe plugs and the bottom was brass pipe plugs. Be sure to use some Locktite to make a good seal - blue is fine.

Thanks all for the reply. For older vehicles in Canada no emissions tests are required so I think i'll just plug them. Any idea the thread count'/size of these?

You'll answer the tread question after you remove them
IIRC-I use either 1/4 or 3/8 inch pipe plugs.
