Removing Flywheel Bolts

Having difficulty getting the flywheel bolts to loosen. I have a suspicion one of the POs used red loctite on them since I've discovered it in several other unusual places. Only have a 24" breaker bar. Put a cheater bar on it and it still wouldn't budge.

Held a torch on one of them for about 30 secs then quelched with a spray bottle. How long should I apply heat? Think it will help?

Do you have access to an air compressor and an impact? That will make short work of even the most stubborn flywheel bolts.

A good impact, either electric or air is the best tool for the job.

May have to go buy an electric one. Will it have as much power as an air driven one? Guess I'll have to checkout the specs on either one...

try PB blaster, 600F is what red loctite calls for.

My electric one is way more powerful than my air powered hammer.

Red locktight should be used on the flywheel bolts. Lockport is never a bad idea to use in the drive train which cansee a lot of vibration. I'm not sure what I would consider a strange place for it.

The impact gun will zip those puppies right out

Is it personal preference then? I was told to use red lock tight an pretty much all the drive train bolts so I just got done doing that on my 4.0 install

I will admit I have never referenced this in the FSM. just got torque spec and cross torqued the wheel.

have an FSM handy??

Never heard off using thread locker on flywheel or other components so I will be waiting for some other opinions.Good idea,not needed??

I don't see how it could hurt

Wasn't making a judjement.Just listening and learning.
Why would you quote my reply.I said I haven't used it in that application.
Doesn't mean i'm against it. Would like to hear other opinions.

The only place I use thread lock is on the differential case ring gear bolts. There isn't a "need" to use it just personal preference.

My personal rule is "everything goes better with locktite." I do make some exception for lock nuts.

no argument on this side, have done the same every time. They say head bolts are one shot too but have used those more than once also.

I recommend an impact as well. LOL...I cant imagine working on an old jeep....or about anything without one. Once you get an impact and use it, I imagine you will be one happy fellow...takes alot of the work out of the work!
I never use red locktight...it simply works too well! And sometimes creates "BIG" difficulties when trying to disassemble something. I use a little of the blue locktite, here and there but not often. Good luck on the flywheel bolts!

Glad I posted, I didn't know you weren't suppose to reuse the flywheel bolts. Looking into an electric 1/2" impact if my friends doesn't suffice.
