Bought a cheap pair of seats from an old Mustang at a garage sale = $20

What seats have you installed?

You really can't beat that price. For some of us older guys a more cushy seat helps for the longer drives, getting them to fit can be a challenge especially for the CJ5 . I would think Mustang seats would be good for the trail and an easy fit hopefully on the oem brackets. I spent a fortune and stuffed in a set of Bestops. Could you send in a pic?

Mine were replaced with Rugged Ridge low back seats. Very traditional design. I actually like the seat itself. They seem strong and well built. I do NOT like the fabric they are made out of. I is some sort of vinyl covered fabric. Since the Jeep doesn't have a top the sun beats down on the seats all the time and the seat material is essentially falling apart. Stains, the vinyl is pealing the color is fading. But I will say this, the desert sun is brutal on surfaces like this. Also, the CJ needs to be kept in a garage.

We used the old seats from my '65 mustang. They work great with some simple home made adapters.

Upholstery kits are super cheap and there are a lot of colors available.

Mastercraft Nomads $200 each. these are layered foam rather than molded foam,suspension seats and the seat cover is replaceable, they set lower and farther back than any of the available aftermarket seats. Built new pedestals to drop them 1 3/4 inches, built a 6 point sport bar that gives me support to climb in and out and notched the fender to move back 2 inches. with this and the tilt wheel everything is pretty comfortable. The side bolsters do a great job of keeping you behind the wheel, it is amazing how much energy it takes to just stay in the seat on rougher trails.

I studied long and hard on an inexpensive seat solution and found nothing in the grave yards. 65 mustang seats are as good a choice as I have seen. I know they are comfortable don't take up as much room as aftermarket seats and will be easy to get in and out of , maybe too easy.

IO I like those seats you have. Do you ever have problems with the shoulder belts rubbing on your neck? We are looking for a different solution to the seats and or seat belts we have in our 7 as those shoulder belts rubbed badly on the neck area. While on the forum ride we finally disconnected the upper parts of the belts. Those were attached on the roll bar. Not the greatest application.

I like those. I have the typical Vinyl Trailmax type in mine. Although they've held up well and quickly shed water, I'm tired of a really sweaty back and butt and having to use some type of airflow cushion.

How are yours? Do they shed water and allow your skin to breathe?

they breath quite well. down side is that they let the foam get soaked and it takes quite a while for it to dry. they are not as UV resistant as I would like but I don't think any of them are.

shoulder harnesses are pretty hard core and the wide belts are pretty uncomfortable any way you look at it. I have yet to install the full harness and when I do I think I will piggy back the stock belts for every day use. I will say that if they are too uncomfortable it may be because they are in the wrong mounting position and/or are not tight enough.
