I've done a lot of reading but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I want to find decent quality gauges that look OE. Need a tach and clock too. My tach works, my clock does not. Any thoughts or threads?

The best? quality replacement gauges I have found so far is the Crown brand that everybody and their mother sells but they leave a lot to be desired :( Autometer is by far a way better gauge but is not factory corect

In my opinion, the only GOOD Jeep CJ gauges are OEM gauges. I tried a few replacments and ended up ditching them and buying used OEM off of ebay.

If you are careful, you can pry the bezel off the speedo cluster, clean everything, and paint the needles with florescent orange paint and it will make the whole dash look 1000's better.

AWESOME build with gauge restoration. Not cheap, but correct and perfect.

Re: Replacement Gauges
Jeep Cluster - Now Available!
Hope this helps I ordered some but have not installed them yet.

WOW those are freaking cool :chug: I want I want I want

Dakota Digital makes a set that are the same size as the original CJ that look good. Their a bit speedy but high quality.

So, I'm fighting the gauge battle myself. While talking to my Jeep guy he says and has said that none of the Jeep gauges he uses are decent replacements. Naturally he is refering to the standard Omix and Crown gauges. Today while perusing the local hot rod shop Auto Meter gauges caught my eye. They are available in Jeep sizes and look mostly like Jeep gauges, so why don't they ever come up in a search for Jeep gauges?

Some complain tha they aren't factory correct ..... but listen folks, a lifted jeep isn't factory correct, big tires didn't come from the factory, that big/small block didn't either, along with the seats your most likely running or the shocks keeping things stable. Who are we kidding when splitting hairs about a better gauge that isn't 100% factory correct.

Personally, I agree our jeeps are not stock or factory . For the same reason someone changes the fuel location, etc. On a wrangler tub. The same reason most of us strive to match those new seats to factory interior color. I don't think any jeep has or ever will be rhino lined inside but I would like to do so, I think. Same reason some will modify wheel opening but not install flush tail lights. I want my cj to look as factory as possible and most certainly would not deface it with wrangler flares, lol. To each is their own and while the new gauges are accurate and better, I still prefer oem equipment. Then again I drive the jeep less than a few thousand miles a year and never more than a few hours from home. I will admit the gauges I have seen mentioned on this forum are sweet!

Point well taken and I'm not trying to argue against the actual factory gauges, especially if they an be rebuilt. Wasn't trying to scold anyone, no sir, Sorry if it came out that way.

It has been frustrating looking for gauges and finding nothing but units that I know are of poor manufacture.

What I'm looking at are gauges that are the right color, have the correct ring, about the only differance is the text and possibly a mask covering the bottom half of the gauge face. If the gauges I'm buying were installed, I believe someone would have to look twice to notice that they are not actually factory gauges. For me the gauges that have "Jeep" written on them look far les like factory gauges than the Auto Meter units.

Edit: I must mention that Torx pointed right at Auto Meter Gauges in the beginning of this thread.

Those Speedhut's are nice. :) I installed the Dakota Digital in my Camaro and absolutely love them. Connections were a breeze. I showed the wife the price on the Dakotas and she freaked! I'm going to have to show her the Speedhut gauges. A wee bit cheaper and look more to stock. She might like a lil' better.

Not taken that way. I like the fact the people here have different views. Don't recall which ones now, seemed like they where a few hundred dollars but would pounce on the opportunity to have them in my cj. A faulty or inaccurate gauge will lead to engine failure on the factory motor some are running. So would I rather keep my motor or a gauge? :D At the end of the day we are preserving history and doing something we love.

The gauges I'm using are relatively inexpensive ~50.00 to $75.00 each. Some of their gauges are scary expensive, but not these.

GPS in the speedo? And a tach? Cool! But mighty spendy.

OEM correct? I drive mine hard and still take it to the drive and park events. OEM is is cool, but had many short comings.

I'm running the discontinued Nordskog gauges and really like them. Since it's digital, it only takes 1mile to re calibrate the speedo when I put my 36 Swampers on. I hate not knowing how fast I'm going. :D

The idea of a GPS speedometer is definitely appealing. When on long trips in the car I use my GPS speedometer to set my speed. I've still got the stock, well it was a junk yard replacement when I go the Jeep, so until the speedometer is figured out the same thing will be done in the CJ.

I originally had planned to use the stock CJ cluster and gauges. After some serious thought, and a few drinks, I decided to go with a custom dash and custom gauges from Autometer.

Dash Similar to this:

Gauges from the Autometer Custom Shop:

Hack, good to see you again. You should hang out here more. :chug:

Not knowing how fast, how much fuel is in the tank, oil pressure, and even voltage is bad! While most have driven a vehicle at some point with a broken gauge of some sort, I would hate to break down because of a oem faulty gauge. Generally I don't drive over 45 in the CJ. We have used the Garmin and drove along side one of our new vehicles to verify the jeep is roughly 10 MPH off. The more I read this post the more I need the pricey gauges though :D

Nice looking dash. I wonder how your passangers knees will look after a day bouncing around, probably no problems. Now I feel a little like going all gauge happy in mine. Howdo you calibrate a non-stock speedometer?
