Hey all!! As I have done with all my hobbies, I have suddenly decided that I want to take up kayaking. So although I have a f150 with a nice truck bed, I realllllly would look way cooler transporting that kayak in my CJ (once I get it on the road... if ever).

Therefore I have suddenly decided I want to get a body cage. Ive done some searching on the google and I have decided that I think the Kargomaster Congo cage is the way to go on this. Seems to me that the brackets can be let on and be minimally noticeable If I wanted to leave them on when I took of cage.

Any one tried this one? OR better yet anyone think they can make something cheaper!;)

The price isn't terrible new. I just have to convince some people to buy some of my jeep parts or harnesses I have lying around to fund it I think.

Funny design IMHO. I guess if I built one, the long tubes would be straight. Maybe that adds some strength to it. If you have the tools or know somebody that can bend the pipe, you could make one a little cheaper, but that's not a bad price. Rod

They put the.bend in to provide Clarence for the cross bar on the soft top

I built one myself for my CJ5 like pictured but with straight tubes & high enough to go over my hardtop. Mine has a basket mounted to it. I made a couple of uprights that mount to the frame to hold the kayak in place. Finally padded everything to protect the kayak. My kayak is about the same length as my CJ5 so I strap front & rear of the kayak to the bumpers & a security strap around the middle to the rack.

Do you really need a full cage?

I think that some split, foam pipe insulation on the windshield frame and roll bar would further protect the kayak; but it might not look as cool to those who don't appreciate an elegant, but ghetto-ish solution.

Did he build that part of the real that runs from the bumper in back or buy it? Doesn't give you the option of a top unfortunately. But simple and sweet.

I don't know. I just remember seeing the picture.

I see your point about the roof, but I figured that when you're kayaking, the weather's all over you. I thought you'd get an early start into the elements by taking off the top and doors while you lug your kayak to the launch.

The congo cage is defintely out. They advertise it as no drilling but the instructions clearly say that you need to drill two holes about the lights into the tub. I am not down with that. Back to the drawing board.
