Yes, this years project is a little bigger than last!

I installed a new AA pilot bushing and in goes the NP435, Dana 300 , and the clutch that came with it. New motor mounts too. It is sitting quite nicely with the Transfer Case dropped an inch or so, almost no twisting of the motor mounts... I might need the double cardan anyhow; we'll see. The factory tranny mount-cross member is bolted on 5" backwards using existing holes in the frame... it just bolted all up! I do need to modify a bit to get the super-pro mount bolted up but overall: gravy! :D

Now all the little :dung:: will the body fit back on, will the fan shroud line up, etc...

im liking your build, looking good, are you going to keep the propane system on it?

where abouts from bc are you? im from maple ridge, my wife and I just spent 2 years building our cj,

the np435, your gonna love the first gear low range, it stupid slow, especially if you have the 4:1 in the 300

Hello Canuck, fellow canuck ;)

I'm in Kelowna, also on local forums, too many, we might have crossed paths there.

No 4:1. I'm keeping the 33's and the plan is a backcountry explorer, not rock crawler so no need for lower gearing than the 435 alone ( which is awesome)

Definately keeping the propane! It is one of the best things about the Jeep. Cheaper to buy, no fuel pump to fail, pressure to regulate, carb to tune. Well there is a carb but it has a huge range of adjustment that works fine, it's really hard to mess up. It runs the same at any elevation and any angle, no stalling on steep slopes. It's simple, fool proof (even I'm managing:D) and performs amazing offroad. I love it.

Nice nice, I love the 4:1, kinda just habit, my last xj had 4:1 terra low kit in it and 37's and it was great, this is our cj, it's been really fun so far

Hope to cross paths with ya one day, tip a few n what not,

Cheers

Hey I noticed your seats..I think you said they were gm..I'm pretty sure there actually out of a fox mustang..I've actually seen other people use them in jeeps too..nice jeep

Thanks Davey, I really have no idea where they are from, Just assumed GM as the seatbelts and other odds and ends are. They have a dial on the side which adjusts the bottom sides so you can pinch your butt into them. Would be handy for a race car! They also have electric lumbar adjustment that doesn't work... I just use a pillow; it always works ;)

Just read through the whole thread..... nice job of bringing that 75 back to life. It looks great! That is my favorite Renegade striping that jeep ever offered, I think it is way cool.

Thanks for the interest guys. I've been moving forward on the Jeep this fall. Here's a quick update:

I built a new tranny cover as I had to cut out some body to fit the NP435. It's not the prettiest thing but nothing on this Jeep is :D

Also finished the dual exhaust. It was a tight squeeze on the passenger side so I knotched and then re-enforced a bracket to make it work and I have some stick-on heat shield so the floor doesn't cook too badly.

You can see the holes in the tub to access the propane tank valve and gauge.

And I put in a generic heater. It's all plumbed but i need to build some ducting to get the defrost working and deflect some of it to the driver-side... otherwise the passenger is going to have WARM legs!

Currently working on the painless re-wire then I'll be able to try and start this thing again!

I'm also going to re-do all the brakes. I got another rear axle with good condition brakes so I'll swap those over and the front is getting a disc brake conversion.

Then fabricating an e-brake, rear seat... I'm sure there's more. Always is

Reading this whole thread is some encouragement I'm in need of. I just bought myself a '75 CJ5 Renegade a little over a week ago. I don't even have it home yet, but I'm making my plans. I can only hope things go as well for me.
I'm looking for a top and doors and I'd sure like to see more of how you set up your heater. I'm thinking that setting things up to keep windows clear is going to be tricky as I don't see any room for discreet venting. Opportunity for enginuity eh?
Keep us posted.

Thanks. CJ's in general are an great opportunity for ingenuity!

I have access to a welder and some specialty tools but 90% of what I've done has been with a very basic set of tools and I'm no expert - learning as I go. So really anyone with motivation can do this. Jeep CJs are so basic, it's wonderful.

On a 75 the factory mould for the defrost comes down to a 2" round hole so it shouldn't be too hard to tie something into that (easier than the newer oval stuff). The side windows dont fog up much because my soft top (bestop) isn't exactly 'air tight.' There are big gaps that let air move and keeps the fogging down but I needed to keep a window open to stop the windshield from fogging (when I had no heater).

I made a square frame that is jammed into the bottom of the dash and bolted to the firewall. I covered it so i have a base for the glove box and bolted the heater to that. I used some 90degree bends to run hoses down and through the firewall (existing holes) and bada-bing: heater. i have a couple pics.

hose clamps galore

Get a thread going when you get your 75 started! :)
