I got this kit today for my 80 CJ7 and of course no instructions. I looked on the internet and my Hayes, Chitons manuals. I can't find the torque specs. Anyone know them ? Im pretty sure the orginals were not torqued right since after I removed the nail ( instead of cotter pin ) the castle nut just spun off by hand.

I believe it's 60 ftlbs. If it is the same as mine with the 3/4 ton tierod ends.

Got it installed, went to go for a test drive but rear wheel cylinder leaked, so now it sits waiting for me to replace the rear brake system including lines.

In response to your question, I would go by the bolt/nut grade, size and thread pitch. If it’s 1/2-24 grade 8, it can take up to 90 lb-ft. I would torque it 60 to 70, no more, as stated before.

My 76 FSM says 50 lb-ft. I just installed a tie rod and drag link from Big Daddy Offroad. I set my torque wrench to 50, and had to tighten each castle but a little bit to get the cotter pin homes to line up right.
