Not a favorite of mine but I have always found the rust patina interesting. Even more intrigued when I found a recent model done really well. Maybe an option for the next paint job...

.

recent model looks sick! they have paint kits for that look too! I once saw a rat rod that had the patina look with a clearcoat over, its a sweet look for those that like.

I sorta do like the clear coat over smooth rust look. ... if that's as far as they go with it.

With that being said, there are two types of vehicles I believe that need to be ..... I don't know what, but I no likey dem, Hard core rat rods and low riders. Can't stand either one of them and I completely believe that is the point. Drive too slow in an attempt to piss off the general population And/or take a nice vehicle and ruin it. I'm especially not fond of the rat rods with big stinkin' diesels bolwin' black smoke all over the road. ..... WHY! ..... Big old grumpy guy, WHY?

Have I got a deal for you! I'll send you a nice rusty East coast Cj and you send me that satin black one you have sitting around. Imagine how happy I'll , I mean we'll both be. :chug:

I kind of thought like you....about the rust that is but....I think I'm going to spring for the parts, spend the bucks and start replacing the panels on my 76 this winter.....one panel at a time. And probably keep it forever. :chug:

While I agree with all of you fellas, as a mechanic by trade and an all around general enthusiest I think all real custom work should be appreciated. Any of you guys like the lifted trucks(f150, f250, dodge, etc..) that are the fad with 22" + wheels and 35's? one day they will figure out if they had smaller wheels their truck would look better none the less perform better...haha , some of those trucks have many hours into them ( the 2016's dont have kits yet, same as with a rat rod, your lucky to start out with parts much less a solid base while some are worried about rusted tubs. I respect the all "original" builders and all of the "custom builders". just sayin it like i see it! :)

We just completed two very high-end office buildings that desired a rust finish for some of the exterior features. The design teams specified a Corten Steel which is left exposed, rusts just a little and then stops. A very different look that appears to be coming more and more popular.
