Recently bought a 82 CJ7 . It has this really bad screech. It only happens above 1500 rpm’s. There is no noise at idle. We are 90% sure the noise is coming from the waterpump pulley area. We’ve replaced the belts. The power steering belt is tight but can still be flexed a little bit when pushed down on. Cleaned and repainted waterpump pulley. Replaced the waterpump. Replaced the fan clutch. The noise goes away when we spray water on the pulley but only because the belt loses grip and doesn’t stick to the pulley. It appears to be in alignment. Any ideas on how to get rid of the noise would be appreciated.

If the noise goes away when sprayed with water then it is an alignment issue. Even slightly misaligned pulleys can cause this even if they look like they are aligned

We’ve noticed when we do spray water on it. The belt slows way down and then as soon as the speed picks back up the noise starts again. Any thoughts about that?
