I am curious to what seats (aftermarket of course) people find the most efficient (leg room, comfort, practicality, element resistant, etc) for CJ5 's. Whether it be new from corbeau, smittybuilt, etc or used from other vehicles (preferred). Ive heard older fox body mustangs, and some ford ranger seats arent bad but im in the market to purchase new ones (mine are pretty shot). Thanks :chug:

I used 89 Mustang seats in my Willys. Even have pump up lumbar support.

Before I upholstered them:

those are nice looking. what material did you use, they stand up well to the elements?

very nice:notworthy::notworthy:

Wow those really turned out nice....i think mustang seats is the way im going to go as well. Did you recover them yourself?...and do they bolt up to the stock brackets ok?

The ones you pictured are a bit different. Note the headrests. What I found interesting is that the ones aside of them look to be more in line of what Stitch posted. Maybe this is a shop that works on Mustangs and sells off the old interiors? Anyhow I have the the Bestop Trailmax Seats in mine and Im less than impressed. They dont offer the side bolster or support the factory seats provide. $175 for those seats seems fair in my book.

Are those the same as a 1991 mustang?...should i go for these?..they look to be in good shape

MUSTANG GT SEATS FROM LOW MILEAGE 1991 CONVERTIBLE. EXC CONDITION!!!!!

Yes same seats as mine. I have an upholstery shop, so yes I did them. I used a carbon fiber vinyl inserts and a black vinyl for the rest. Should last as well as anything, given the elements that it's exposed to. They are fabricated brackets made out of angle iron. The passenger seat is held in the front by two wing nuts that allow it to swing up and back for access to the under seat tool box. The drivers seat swing forward to get to my battery. I wanted to match my carbon fiber (vinyl) dash.

How deep and how thick is the bottom and the back. the problem is to avoid setting too far forward and too high in the seat.

After mosh deliberation I have bought a pair of Master craft Nomads for My CJ5 . With a little luck I will have a chance to put them in in the next week or two. Expect a review. They cost about $200 each and the only thing I object to so far is they are fabric rather than full vinyl. They are UV resistant material but will hold a bit of water if left out overnight.:D

they are pretty comfortable just setting on the living room floor.

As you can see from the picture my seats sit a little higher than most. It fits me fine as I'm not that tall. This allows them to sit back a lot more than stock also.I can even recline them to a better position than straight up too.

So it looks like ill need to fab some sort of bracket?...and thats not a bad idea to get access to the toolbox. Great setup...you do good work from the looks of things

Thanks, I mainly do aircraft and street rods but not strictly. Here's one of my airplane that I restored.

FWIW I love my Corbeau's.

Those plane seats look good...that type of work is becoming a lost art around here it seems.

And id love corbeaus as well im sure, i just dont love the price (although the "get what you pay for" saying holds true, im sure"

I cant imagine they would be, but i figure the rear seat will be perfect (i dont plan on riding in it too often :D) Then later i can switch out the two fronts for something a little more comfy, im sure there will be a few resto freaks thatd want two original front seats somewhere...not a bad deal for the price i dont think.

Second on the Corbeau's. They are very comfy. When shopping we went to a local shop that had a bunch and my wife and I sat in them all. She made me get the better seats! Don't skimp too much on the comfort, if you plan on your significant other going along for the ride and you want them to be happy and continue using it. You want them comfortable.

Remember, happy wife, happy life.

very true...but for the time being im a single fella...once i find me a female we may spend more time in the rear seat :D albeit cramped

the original seats will be more comfortable than the rugged ridge or bestop seats. those are worse than a church pew.:D

ha good to hear....i bought the originals (well i will buy the originals once i can make it out to orange beach..30 or so min drive)...seller is holding them for me. I mainly bought them for the back seat...i will probably end up selling the front seats eventually. Just seems hard to find those rear seats. I was thinking about possibly mounting it facing backwards, but idk yet...just still thinking of ideas at this point ha.
