seats
I know the low backs may be period for some CJs but for safety my vote goes to full backs.
I can only speak about a CJ5 .
Finding replacement seats is a real PITA, especially if you are a big guy. Right now I have 70-80 Chevy work van seats in mine because they are the same as the 77 had new. The seats are low back, non reclining and as plain as they get. They fit, in size and they bolt right to the pedestals and/or sliders with no modifications. they are also easy to get in and out of but do not do a great job of keeping you in position when things get rough. They are reasonably comfortable.
My experience with after market seats is, they suck! they are, on average, too small where they should not be and take too much room where they should not. And worst of all they are as comfortable as the bench at the bus stop.
one more point, the reclining feature is pretty much useless in a CJ5 . Unless you are 5 feet tall and have the seat slid forward all the way. The passenger seat is all the way back to the roll bar/fender well and my drivers seat is there because it has to be. The after market seats I have seen, in person, set you higher ( thighs contact bottom of wheel) and farther forward ( navel contacts steering wheel) and make getting in and out almost impossible.
Wheeler, I wish you luck with the F-AMC 150 seats, please keep us posted on that project.
Master craft have a great reputation and from what I have seen the Corbeau look good as well. The biggest problem I have is spending that much money on line with out ever seeing/setting in them. Have you noticed that a lot of the manufactures tell you what waist size there seats are. Most would have fit me when I was 18. but that has been a while.
My plan, at least today, is to order a (one) Corbeau Baja JP wide and try it on. They have assured me they have a good return policy so depending on what I find I can keep it or swap/return for the XRS, although I have no need of the recline feature. If that does not work I can try the Master craft seat.
I know what you mean about needing that extra clearance! I would like to hear your feedback on that Baja JP wide!

IO & Tarry, I have the Corbeau Baja Ulta seats, I was just looking at their website and the baja jp seats. It's interesting that the reg. ulta and jp seat say they fit 38" waists, I'm only a size 31 and mine are a snug fit (I like that though)
Also the ulta is 22.5 wide and the jp is 21.5 wide (overall) I had to take my cj center console out as there wasn't enough room for it.
Just some food for thought.
It will be interesting to get some feed back about the jp wide.
By the way I love my seats, they are very comfortable even after an all day trail ride.
