1983 CJ7, 350 V-8. 4 speed manual transmission. According to the VIN number I believe I have a Dana 300 T case transmission.
First project on my new 1983 CJ7 was to replace the loose universal fit shift knob. I'm having a hard time finding an original shift knob--I really want to stay away from the universal fit options, as they all tend to get loose. Has anyone had luck finding an original knob? my understanding is that they were usually stolen. Any input is appreciated!

Did you look in Qtec or 4WDInc's catalog or website? Seems to me I saw them there. I changed mine a long time ago to a beer tap lever. Perfect thread match.

a beer tap lever would be a great and unique idea as well! Thank you for the information on the other two options as well. I apprecaite it!

I would like to find one for my T-18 with reverse to the rear pattern. These also indicate an "L" for low, then 1,2, and 3.

After trying a few universal shift knobs and several beer tap handles, I went a different route...A 25 caliber 'Saturday Night Special'. I'm not sure what local law enforcement will think of it...but it looks awesome! I took a piece of round stock, inserted into the barrel (for added stability) and then welded a 3/8" nut coupler to the tip of the barrel and rod stock. The nut coupler looks like a silencer on the barrel.

That what I was going to suggest as well (no not exactly a gun,:D ) but that you unless you want your Jeep to look completely stock give it a little personality. It easy to change out if you ever need to any way.

I have had a couple but once I regeared I decided to use one of my spiders. And I added a shot shell to middle, so not only did I get to make mine but I also found a reason to shoot my shotgun in my garage (which my wife did not appreciate). Of course I opened it and dumped the shot out first. LOL

Any time one can find a good reason to fire a shotgun in the garage--and not hurt anyone, is a good day! Thank you for the picture--looks very cool!

1980 CJ7 4 speed
My shift pattern has reverse up and to the left. Has anyone an idea where to find a original knob insert. All i find is down to the right

What you have is an SR4 Transmission . No idea where to get a knob.
