Should I Get A D44 or Keep the 20?

Does not look too horible with respect to the gears but any rust on bearings is not a good scenario. The gears are not the ones you want anyway are they? If it's what you really want I would get it and go through it myself, Just went through my 3B's 44 all the way and it's not rocket science but you will need some tools. You will spend plenty of money even if you do all the work yourself. The one bright side is I can send you my carrier set up bearings and that will save you $ there.
 
I think I am going to pull the trigger on the 20 even with the pinion issue. considering i am about to go on active duty order for 2 months so I wont be able to touch it anyway for 2 months. I am thinking when I come back I will have the disposable money to have a shop set up the bearings right and then have them install one piece or ill do it myself depending on how froggy I feel.
