82 Scrambler, Going back to factory configuration
^Currently^ blown up 304 in the bed, T18a, twin stick 300, D30 front and Currie 9' rear 4.11 gears.
72 CJ 5 turin into rock buggy (Possibly 440 powered)
Can any one shed some light on these? What years did they come on and what trim packages? As far as I know they only came on the 7's and I think it was the Laredo trim towards the end of production.

I had a set of those on an 80 CJ7 base. The late Laredo /Renegade ones were bigger and had an upturned area on the fronts.

If you want to sell them, let me know!

I'm looking a buying these ones for the Scrambler. After I put the AMC 304 in with fenderwell headers and purple hornies the bigger ones had to come off and I really miss my foot rest, so I'm hoping these will fit. I've seen this style go for $200+ for a set (better condition). And have only seen them a a few Jeeps over the last 10 or so years, don't really know much about them, other than it's took me almost 2 years to find a set that I might be able to afford(without pissin Momma off).

One of these days I'll find a set! I've noticed that you can't even find those hoop things that were so common throughout the 80's and early 90's.

the last set I saw was on a CJ5 , a 78 as I recall. He took the jeep to Moab and I don't think the steps survived. He referred to them as "rock magnets".:D

Pretty sure the hoop things are still being sold, I bought a set for my '01 Offroad Edition Ram Sport last year. It was such a pain to get in that truck. It was 5" over the factory lift w/ 35" tires... all a fat man could do to get in it! Anyways, sold the truck before I got them on, and still have them somewhere. They're pretty universal, I should see if they'll fit on my CJ.. I have the same problem with it!!:D

Momma can't get in the CJ without something, and I'm really tired of strapping her little step ladder to the tailgate (I'd hate to see what she'd do if I lifted it). I don't want to drill holes in the frame for nerf bars, and I'm trying to keep it more or less period correct so sliders are out.

I've searched high and low for the hoops, and only Carr still seems to make them, but cast aluminum isn't quite the hot ticket for where I take the CJ.

There is a real nice pair of the older type like the ones in your pic. on EBAY right now. The bids are at $51

My 78 CJ5 came with them.

I had a set of these on my CJ, and I modified them to be able to fold up against the body when they weren't being used. Worked out good until my passenger forgot to fold them up and I hit a rock jutting out of a steep embankment in a ditch I was in...ripped the step in 1/2, but the mount was in perfect condition.
All I did was take 2 of the mounting bolts out of the bracket. Then you could reach down and fold the step up from the seat...Might be an idea for you.

Sounds like an idea that might work. I've been considering getting a couple of lengths of drill chain (think giant bicycle chain) and making something that folds completely flush.
