Signal Stat 900 turn signal wiring

Hello, I'm new here as a member, but before joining I read everything I could find on multiple sites before registering so I can ask a question I just can't find an answer for....
My 73 CJ5 that I just bought has non-functioning turn signals and brake lights. Also when I turn the headlights on and try to get the dome light to come on, thats the only time I get any dash lights, and they are a mix (right turn signal indicator on, low amp warning on, backlights to hvac controls on, all others dark). The turn signal mechanism looks to be original and is in bad shape, as is the wiring for it under the dash. I found the original wiring diagram, and Im going to rewire the entire dash. Im replacing the headlight switch and am going to replace the signal switch with a signal-stat 900. Problem is the wiring diagram shows wiring the switch straight to the lights, but the original wiring diagram shows the wires going from the turn signal switch to the hazard switch and then to the appropriate lights. any help on this? Thanks
Shane
