Well yall I don't know what I'm working with. My jeep is a culmination of alot of things. The po took from everywhere to put this thing together. I'm now in search of a hydraulic slave cylinder. The current one is rusted beyond repair. The problem is I don't have a clue whats it off of or where to get a replacement one. My buddy took it with him to try and find some info out on it, so when I get my hands on it I will post a pic of it. My ? is can I make another one work if it doesn't look like the one I have now. This thing is already all about improvising. What could I use that will work and what problems will I have?:confused:
 
What kind of a slave cylinder? Brake? Front? Rear? Drums? What axles do you have?

Whats critical with clutch master cylinders is the bore diameter and to a lesser extent the throw.

Too small and you won't get full throw, making it hard/impossible to shift, grinding into R, and wrecking your synchros.

Too big and things get hard to press and you could end up driving the throwout too far into the pressure plate and ruining the fingers.

Best to take it off and measure the diameter so you can get the same size, assuming it was sized correctly w/ all the other variables by the PO.
 
Yea its for the clutch, I'm suppose to have it back tomorrow so I will post some pics of the current one. The thing was already a beast to get into reverse and 2 3 4 were ok and first is un syncro to start with. This thing is deffinitely weird.
 
If it grinds into reverse after pressing the clutch, waiting ~ 5 seconds, then trying to engage R, you aren't getting full clutch release, and the hydraulic system as a whole needs to be looked at to determine if its the right combo of parts. Could also be the pilot bushing.
 
Ok new ? before I just go and buy a new slave cylinder. What can I do to determine if its the proper set up. I'm putting a new clutch in and I had the flywheel resurfaced. How can I tell if I need to replace the whole set up and do something else put a different slave cylinder on it.
 
How about some pictures and a measurement of the bores in the current setup? You've got to give us something to go off of here.

If you keep firm pressure on the slave rod and press the pedal carefully and slowly, does the rod move out on the slave? If so, how far? Don't just mash the clutch here or you will send half your slave cylinder flying and will probably need to replace it then.
