Okay guys this is my first post so I'll try not to mess it up. I have a 77 CJ7 with a AMC 304 and a T-150 Transmission . Yesterday while driving it shifting into second, my shifter didn't stop at second.. it kept going all the way to the dash. What the heck is that? I'm new to Jeep's and manual transmissions so I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated.

I know that on the T-18 there is a locator pin on the top of the Transmission where the shifter goes into the Transmission . I believe that the T-150 has 2 of these pins. If the pins wear to the point of falling out, or to be more precise, IN to the Transmission , there is nowhere for the shifter to pivot on to engage the shift forks. You should be able to access the pins the same way as a T-18 . Remove the shift boot and the tunnel cover. There should be flat spots on what looks like a dome where the shifter enters the Transmission . Use a large channel locks pliers to turn the dome off. You will now be able to see the pins on either side of the shift rod. If either one is missing, the shifter won't engage the shift forks. If a pin is missing, it is probably somewhere inside the Transmission and should really be gotten out. You could get lucky and have it fall out, or at least be reachable with a magnet by draining the oil from the tranny, and fishing around through the drain hole. Can you still shift into other gears?

Hey guys,
So I took the shift boot and tunnel cover off and looks like I've lost one of the two pins. Any idea where I can get one? I can shift now that I've cranked that tunnel cover down. It was almost completely unscrewed

I would seriously not recommend driving until you find the pin! It is a hardened pin, and if it manages to work it's way up and get between 2 gears while driving, you can pretty much kiss the gears bye bye. It may not be as simple as finding a replacement pin. Drain the oil and fish around with your finger or a magnet through the drain hole. It is probably laying at the bottom of the Transmission case. Once you find it, see how it fits into the bore where it is supposed to go. It may not be the pin. I could be that the hole where it goes has become enlarged, and a new pin will only fall out too. If the pin is bent or damaged, then it could be as simple as replacing it, but it still begs the question, why did it fall out in the first place.

Did the dome on top of the Transmission come completely off? If it did, the pin may have fallen to the outside. I don't know where to get pins for a T-150 , but they look a lot like the pins used by the T-18 /T19. You can try Parts Mike for these pins.

I was just at the local hardware store picking up some fasteners, and I noticed that they carried an assortment of hardened steel chrome pins. You might want to check out that source also. You would need to cut them to length. Just thought that I would let you know.
