soft top?

i came across a great deal on a soft top. the guy bought it in the 80s and it is a best top. a different guy is selling it for him and dont know what years it is for and the guy who bought it dont remember. is there any way to tell by looking at it if it is for a 76 and up CJ5 . it has like a sun roof in it if that helps. it has never been on a jeep. thanks

Do you mean it opens the cavas area over the front seats? That would be a Sunrider top from Bestop. Ive only seen them offered for Cj-7s so it wouldnt fit your CJ5 . Never saw a top other than that with a "sunroof".

Wow!!! I'll go out on a limb and say that there might be 1 other person on this site that has seen that top. All I can say about it though is "greenhouse". Major heat factor. walk away. quickly. before you dehydrate.

Most of the time in the summer we go topless or without the doors anyway.
And in the winter the green house effect might be nice lol. But for a hundred bucks for a top that has never been installed we are getting it

it almost looks like the back is shorter.

the middle hoop sticks way up in the middle. all i did was take the old one off and put the new one on. the front wont stay in the channel that good either.

Soft tops get a little funky when they have been sitting for a while. Even Bestop suggests that you lay out a new top to sit in the hot sun for a few hours before doing an install. The fabric will stretch out and be easier to fit. I would suggest you let the sun bake it and keep trying to stretch and fit it a little better.

i hope it does. we drove over two hours to get this top. i found it on craigslist. it has never been on a jeep and just needed cleaned up from sitting for over ten years. i have never seen a top with sun windows on the top. i thought it was cool. we paid $125 for it. i want it to fit right but im not mad about the money. im mad about the drive. i hate big cities and we had to drive through columbus oh to get it.

If its like a Bestop you should be able to move that rear bar up to match the middle hoop. Like Cw said let it out in the sun for awhile and then try and ratchet that up a bit.

what would be the best thing to use on the windows to clean them. i dont want them to yellow and get cloudy like the old one did.

Yellowing is simply sun damage due to age and exposure. It usually takes along time, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Scratching is the problem with soft windows, so try to keep cleaning them for when you wash the Jeep. A soft sponge or wash rag and plenty of water to lift and remove the dirt safely is the best way. I found that a California duster worked best on the inside, and didn't seem to scratch them up at all.

it has some tuff dirt on them. is there anything i can spray on or can i uses my glass wipes i use one my cars?

I don't like or use anything with ammonia in it, including glass cleaner. Hell, If can ruin my granite countertops, it's a cinch that it will be harsh on other things as well. Give soft scrub a try, I removed a grease stain from my back window once with it, and had no ill effect to the window.
