We did a hour ride and parked my 76cj5 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with the 4 speed t 18 tranny. when we got in it to leave the speedo cable sounded like it was slapping around and making the speedo to jump around. I disconnected it from the cluster. I could not disconnect it from the tranny. It would unscrew but would not pull out Is there a trick to remove it from the tranny?

No tricks to it. It should pull straight out. They do stick some times.

It's connected to the Transfer Case , just pull it out as mentioned.

Yes sir it was hooked up to the Transfer Case when I unhooked it from the cluster it cam off easy. The funny thing it was still in one piece. I lubed it up and tried it again but it was to no avail. Will have to install a new one. Must be stripped at the ends.
