i hate taking my stuff to a mechanic. i only do it if i dont have the tools to do it. like my wifes water pump and timing belt on her 00 civic. for some reason i dont like people messing with my cars but me. ive always been that way for some reason.

sorry cj for highjacking your post.

 Its OK I do that with CJ all the time!:chug:

What good timing! Brown showed up today with the first load of parts!
Well, the Poly motor mounts came last week, but this is the first time I've opened the box.

The gages came from Summit, the motor mounts are from Quadratec, and the fuse center is from West Marine. I still have a fuel sender and the back-ordered poly bushing set to come in.

those are sweet looking gauges.

thanks! There were some I liked the look of better, but this line is the only one that had all the guages I wanted included in the series, including the Tach.

If I was richer I would have gone with liquid-filled, but these were pricey enough!

Took a little road trip and met up with a really nice guy (and a 2 or 3 time iraq vet to boot) and picked up a Dana 30 disk brake axle for cheap! Needs rebuilt (what 30 year old parts wouldn't?) and missing the short side axle shafts, but good enough for me. It also has a set of older Superwinch hubs on it :) I'm not sure weather to keep them or get new Warn units.
Next on the list: get the parts to rebuild the knuckles and install it onto my CJ's axle!
No pix yet, till I get it home.

A great find and sound like some great friends also! Sure wish I could find a disk brake diff around here. Just not any 'round...

I scour craigslist nearly every day. Just happened this one was close to where I was going to be this weekend. This guys brother might have the T-18 short shaft I've been looking for, so it might have been a really good trip after all! :)

you know just about any Dana 30 shold be able to be used, right? I'm just using the knuckles out with this so I dont have to mess with changing gear sets.
I believe (dont quote me) that the Cherokees (??) might have the right parts to convert yours over?? I'll look at my computer at home and see if I can find the links I saved on this.

Yea, that is the easy part. Problem is that Jeeps and Jeep parts around here go for crazy $$$. I have to drive forever to find the parts and then I have to figure out how to get them home... I have found some before but now that I'm REALLY looking they are scarce... :(

Yea hee too. Everyone thinks the older stuff is made of gold. I hit 4 J/Ys yesterday in Oklahoma city, and not one of them admitted to having parts for any of my trucks (a '99 Durango, a '92 Ranger and the '74 CJ)!
as for getting an axle home, Put a hitch carrier on that Mountaineer! No trailer needed, it stores easily, and keeps the interior clean.
