In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
WooHoo...I fly home on Wednesday for the first time in a month :)
So I decided to celebrate and ordered a few parts here and there.
Spent the majority on all new dash guages from summit racing-

also got fuel level, oil pressure, vacuum, water temp, and voltmeter guages that match the speedo. Still need to order the oil temp guage.

got a set of poly pieces from Quadratec-

which I just got told is on backorder  good thing I wont have time to work on it till this summer (possibly)

also got a new fuel level sender. That ought to be fun to install :D

Next time (maybe):
PSC extreme power steering gearbox, pump and cooler
steering gear brace
Skyjacker - Heavy Duty 1.250" D.O.M. Swedged Tie Rod

while I'm home I am picking up a spare Dana 30 axle for the Disc brakes and spare axle shafts. so that will be on the rebuild and install list eventually.

My plan, since I'll be away from home all this year working, is to buy a truckload of parts that are basically bolt-ons since I dont have a decent shop anymore. But I will be picking up a few shop tools along the way as funds permit, so I might even get to build a few toys when I am at the house. :chug:

Sounds like a plan! I hope you get to stick around at home long enough to put it all together...

I like those gauges - they look great.

I looked around my neck of the woods for a Dana 30 with disks to swap into my CJ. They sure are scarce in these parts... :(

I can store those parts in my jeep if you need a place to store them.:D Can't promise I will give them back though.

CJ- Yea, I looked for one for quite a while. Ran across this one about 3 1/2 hours from the house, but only about 1 hour from the M-I-L's house (which is where I'll be next weekend anyways :)) so I jumped on it.

Projectcrawler- thanks for the offer, but I'll store these myself, thanks :D

OH yea. other things I'm looking for:
Jeep short shaft T-18 Transmission /Dana 20 combo.
Late 90's Isuzu Trooper Dana 44 rear axle
Warrior prod. U-bolt skid plates
Dana 30 skid plate

NO its not for my boat...But I want the features the marine units have, since my Jeep seems to like mud and water. :)
I have plans to re-wire the entire Jeep from scratch, and am collecting parts for that. should be a very interesting project...

What year is your CJ? I rewired mine from scratch last time. Just me and a manual...

Its a '74. But since I have my own ideas and plans, there is no way a kit will work for me. So I will scratch build it.
I did my first one ('47 CJ2a with a 327 chebby) in high school without even a book, just a photocopy of the charging system diagram. :)
First part is the flip out dash panel with all new gauges and switches...

Sounds like your like me... Can wire just about anything at any time... Ever notice our the guy they call when this thingy isn't working?

I ain't that great, but I can throw a harness together as slow as anyone :) and I do get that occasional call...

Don't sell yourself short. If you can make a harness your up on 99% of the people who work on vehicles. I actually had a guy ask me one time as we were hooking up a tach, 'won't the electricity leak out' because I didn't tape up a ground wire...

I had a buddy call me a couple months ago and ask me where to cut the battery cables at so he could replace them...and then asked if he should disconnect them first...

any opinion on this thing??

Looks like it'll only rob you of about a 1/2 or so of ground clearance. Definitely one of the better pumpkin skid plates I have seen.

dang i need you guys to come to ohio and figure out why my dash lights dont work and my marker lights. i have a map light i bought from work plugged into the cig lighter for dash lights. lol. all the gauges i rewired the lights to the fuse block to something not being used and put them on a toggle switch.

Do you have a wiring diagram for that 79? If not - I think I can find one...

more than likely its the switch or the connections to it.
There is a rheostat-thing in it that controls the dash light intensity that will corrode. I bet I have something that would work, or they are pretty cheap to buy.

oops...

you have to check out the fuse system.or there will be short circut.

check it with a mechanic.(its better).

I dunno about the later years, but my '74 came with very minimal fuses from the factory (if there are any at all in that rat's nest !)

as the diagram shows, there is a 3A fuse in the dash light system. And a 20A in the Headlight/marker system.

fuses are ok. i think it might be the headlight switch. the headlights work. man i need to find a upgrade for them. but the dash dont. im gonna have to pull the switch and take it to work when i go back. in 79 there are two different switches it could be. thanks for the wiring digrams.
