This is going to be a stupid question, but what is the stock carb model for the AMC 304 ? This one says motorcraft on it, which I assume is stock, but what model? Oh, my buddy and I got my CJ5 to start this past weekend. It didn't last long since we found out that the fuel pump is shot, but we are so stoked it ran. That was a big worry for me especially since I didn't even know if the engine was good when I bought the dang thing.

Really, I'm surprised. I thought someone would say some specialized carb shop or something. I can go with that. Are all 2100 kits the same? I've seen some kits on ebay and there were different versions of it. And would you possibly know where to get the fuel hard lines from?

Give the clerk at the NAPA your vehicle info and he'll find the 'rite' kit.
Take pictures of any carb numbers you find on yours.

Most of the kits that you get will have extra parts included. The kit usually fits both the 2100 and 2150, so don't think that you missed something just because you don't use all of the parts. Parts left over are normal.

That's great to hear, I'm always tweaking when I have extra parts left over, and my OCD doesn't help... Thanks Bass!

Will do, thanks LG, I appreciate it. Do you have a bead on the hard lines?

Not sure what you mean.
I'm lucky to have a NAPA regional warehouse about 10 minutes from my house.
If they don't have what I want-They can get it in about 24hrs.

The hard metal fuel line sections. I just went by napa and inquired about the rebuild kit. The first shock was it was listed under Chrysler, and the second was sticker shock. They are awfully proud of their kits, they wanted over $50 for one. They can bring it in but they would have to pull it from another store and I'm not to keen on the pricetag. Any other ideas where I can get one at?

Cry one time-Fix it 'rite' the first time.
The cheaper kits, most of the time are China :dung:.
Never had any issue with the NAPA kits.
Keep'n a 45+ year old Jeep run'n, will never be cheap.

You don't want to know how much I got in this thing so far and I have yet to start any real work on it yet. I got a buddy that works for the local dealership. I'll see if he can get me one through napa using his discount.

Definition of a boat-A hole in the water that you pour money into....

Ain't that the truth, lol.;) Looking back I probably could have bought a really nice running jeep for what I've spent so far......but it wouldn't be as much fun, and more importantly it wouldn't be "mine".

Here is a quick question, I need some experienced opinions. A few weeks ago I jumped the gun and bought a used edelbrock performer 4 bbl intake thinking I wanted to put a 4 barrel carb on this engine. I know, idiot thing to do. My buddy who is helping me with the CJ5 is leaning towards rebuilding the stock carb (hence the reason for this thread) but is not apposed to changing out the intake and me getting a 4 bbl carb. My question is should I just rebuild the original carb and keep the intake for maybe a future upgrade of just bite the bullet and buy a 4 barrel carb? I have no plans on changing the cam and I'm planning on sticking with the mechanical fuel pump.

Just my opinion, but a AMC 304 really does not need a 4bbl carburetor in it's stock form. It may look good, but the reality of it is, if the engine can't make use of the extra fuel you dump into it, all you are doing is pouring fuel out the tail pipe, and building up unnecessary carbon inside the engine. If you install a more aggressive cam, better flowing heads, exhaust, etc. then you will realize some gains.

It makes sense. My buddies original idea was to rebuild the stock carb, get everything running smoothly, get some road time, and then maybe this winter or next spring do an engine rebuild with this intake, 4bbl carb, maybe a more aggressive cam..... I was thinking if I'm already going through the trouble of already changing out the distributor, distributor gear, timing chain, etc... why not the intake and carb too. I didn't think of it in the terms you laid out.
