Hi guys. My 1979 CJ5 has manual brakes. I went to swap in a chrome master cylinder cover (it doesn't fit BTW) and noticed something...

The cylinder has 2 compartments. The back one is pretty full but the front (smaller) one is empty. This should be full too...right?

Sorry for the dumb questions...but I really don't know. Thanks.

Yes it should be full also you must have a leak somewhere.

Yep - need to find the leak, repair it and the rebleed the brake system.

FYI if the front (smaller) half is empty the leak will be in the rear brake system somewhere.

look for wet spots on the inside of the tire. not to be confused with the neighbors K9.

Man, you guys are awesome. Thanks again. I love my Jeep and wish I knew how to do more to it but I'm afraid I'll make it worse than before :)

That's the Tinhorn Technique. Fix it, find out what went wrong, then fix it the RIGHT way. It reinforces the lesson learned. I recommend it highly.
