swapped to a yj frame, trans doesnt line up. help?

Hey all,

Just started swapping my crusty, rusty cj frame for a better condition yj frame. It seems the yj engine mounts are in the correct position for grille, radiator, and fan clearance. However, no matter how far forward or backward I move the Transmission the mount doesnt line up with any of the yj skid plate mounts.

It looks like two of the Transmission mounts would line up correctly but then the mount isnt tall enough and it causes the Tcase to hit the skid. The torque arm mount also is too short and doesnt line up with any mount holes.

Those of you who did the frame swap, how did you go about mounting up your Transmission ?

Frame is from an 87 yj, skid plate is from a 94 yj, and engine / Transmission is from my 78 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /T-150 /Dana 20 .

Wrangler frames are much different than a Jeep frame so I hope your using a Wrangler tub and axles as well. You can modify a Wrangler tub to fit a Jeep frame and drivetrain with a little work but by the sounds of what your doing you got your work cut out for you.

I have chevy axles ready to use and am doing rust repair with a wrangler tub also.

Was just hoping to gain some info from others experiences in hopes to come up with the best solution. Only issue at this point is the best way to mount the T-150 / Dana 20 combo.

You have at least 3 options.

Sell the T-150 and Dana 20 and find a YJ Transmission (such as an AX15) and use the larger 4 bolt YJ Transmission mount to fit the YJ pan. Use a clocking ring and flat mount a Dana 300 to match your Chevy front axle.

T-150 and custom mount and notch the pan for the Dana 20 and plate it in (to mimic the dip in the OEM CJ pan)

T-150 / stock mount/ Dana 20 ......no YJ pan, but instead make your own belly crossmember with a bolt on flat plate on the bottom.

Due to budget im stuck with what I have

Bummer on all the mounting fab work. That is kind of what I figured. I was debating on cutting off the bumped up portion from the original cj pan and welding it to the YJ pan. Or is that just a rediculous idea compared to cutting a hole and plating it for the Dana 20 ?
