I tried to take the shift knob off of my T-176 and the shaft broke off flush with the bottom of the knob. It appears that a hole was drilled and tapped at the end of the shift lever, a piece of all-thread was inserted into the end, and then the shift knob was screwed on to the all-thread. It doesn’t appear that the end of the shift lever was turned down and then threaded. Has anybody had any experience with this? Tried to search for this, but didn’t find anything. Thanks.

Without pictures-Kinda hard to say if this can be salvaged.
Might be able to weld a bolt onto the shaft end, and go from there.

It's has a threaded end of the shaft. What got me was I could not get it to unscrew and snaped it off of but then the part in the knob I was able unscrew it real easy out of the knob  So I found a bolt that would screw into the knob and cut the top off of it off and welded the threads to the top of the shifter.

When the stud on my shifter broke off I drilled and tapped threads into the top of the shifter. Then I used JB Weld on the threads of the all thread that I ran down into the shift lever. Anti seize on the threads that go into the shift knob. Works great. I've removed the shift knob several times with no issues.

Where it snapped off, is the shaft too wide to tap/re-thread?

It is tapered at the top, is it not??

I would be seriously thinking about a new stick.

Just file and shape till you have the correct dia to run a die to cut the thread.

Mine was busted off at the thread when I bought it so this is what I did, although I did use a grinder.

FYI, the shift knob thread on my T-5 is 3/8-16. Don't know if the T-176 is the same.

The original shifter is necked down and then has male threads cut into it. Mine broke off right at the base where it is reduced for the male threads. File it flat, center punch it, drill it as straight as you can, and tap female threads into it the same size as the female threads in the shift knob. Mine had plenty of meat left for this. Then use a piece of allthread cut to length.
