t18-1b what is it worth???

The T-18 series is a great tranny. Unless someone has messed with it it should have the granny low gear. As far as value I paid 25 for mine but CJ was telling me they go for 400 out in his area. In the end it comes down to how much someone will pay for it.

The T-18 with the wide ratio 6.32 low gear is considered the Holy Grail of transmissions in the Jeep world with very few exceptions. Be glad you have it.

i might be interested in picking that up from you. let me know if you are interested in selling it.

How do I know if it has the wide ratio 6.32 low gear?

Put the Transmission in low gear. Mark both the front and back shaft at top dead center (so to speak) then turn one or the other and count the turns they both make. Once the front shaft has gone around one time the number of turns the back one makes is the ratio.

yeah just let me know if you pull it and when and we can work something out if you are interested in selling it. thanks!!

Ok I am new to this but I have a couple more question. One is do I have to have the Transfer Case off the Transmission to figure this out? I put the tcase in natural and spun the rear shaft one full rotation and counted how many rotations the front input shaft spun and it was 13 times around for one rotation. So what does that mean. 13 to 1 ratio? I asks because I when I look on line I didn't see any t18s with this gear ratio.

:)I am assuming you have a Dana 300 Transfer Case , is that correct? If so it should be a 2.62:1 ratio in low...........You claim the Transfer Case was in neutral?
If so I do not see how you could have counted anything as there would be no output.
Put the Transfer Case in high range...........that should be 1:1
Turn the "Input shaft" ...........Not the output shaft.........and count how many times it turns as compared to the output shaft.
Should be about 6-1/3 revs.if it is a 6:32 low gear. If it turns 4 times its a 4:02 gear first gear.

OK so I put in to high and I spun the input shaft a little over 6a revolutions to get the rear to make 1a full rotation. Thank you for all the help I am really new to all of thisso does this mean its6;32 low gear? If so what the going price for something like this?

There really is no going price. I looked back and I see no where which says what motor is in front of it.......or what Transfer Case you have? The other question: Is this a Ford T-18 or Jeep or Scout version that had been installed?

Point is for it to be of value to someone it would need to bolt up to there application also..........if not there could be a Bell Housing change needed or perhaps even an adapter needed for there Transfer Case ............Once those questions are answered the next obvious would be the condition of the gear box.

Sycnro's ,bearings & seal replacements are one thing but damaged gears and shafts are in a totally different zip code as far as costs.

Way to many questions remain unanswered for me to come up with a reasonable price.

I understand I am far from a Transmission guy that is for sure . I just didnt know this is my first jeep and I am learning as i go. the Transmission was attached to a jeep CJ5 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .

:)OK AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine .........next take a look at your Transfer Case ...........there is an article on this site that has various pictures of different Transfer Case 's
It is more than likely a Dana 300 but it still would be a good Idea that you verify that for the next buyer.

One last question: Why are you selling it? For off road use that is one of the best available transmissions out there...........when not in the Granny Low gear its just a basic 3-Speed. Go to the Novak.com site and do some reading.

I will check the t case tomorrow. I was just thinking about selling it. I am doing my first build and was thinking of putting a v8 of some kind into the jeep. I am really not sure what I am doing for sure yet. I just bought a CJ5 and it had the T-18 and AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in it.

By all means keep the T-18 (sorry any potential buyers)
It is a superb tranny behind a V8 as it is rated heavy duty. Offroad it really has very few equals in a swb jeep for strength and low gearing in a stock tranny. It suffices just fine onroad.
