t18-1b what is it worth???

By all means keep the T-18 (sorry any potential buyers)
It is a superb tranny behind a V8 as it is rated heavy duty. Offroad it really has very few equals in a swb jeep for strength and low gearing in a stock tranny. It suffices just fine onroad.

I agree 100%

You are luck to have that Transmission bud. It's a great tranny to have behind a v8.

What v8 are you planning to swap in? A AMC V-8 should be the easiest swap all the way around T-18 included.

Wait what am I saying??? :bang: That thing is junk I'll pay shipping to take that paperweight off your hands :drool: :poke: :D

I found this info on the Novak site:

"A certainly rare version of the Ford T-18 was the T18B, as provided in diesel trucks from 1967-1972, featuring higher gear ratios in 1st thru 3rd gears (4.32, 2.26, 1.51). This Transmission will be very rarely encountered, but individuals should be aware of the possiblity."

I havent seen any reference to it ever being available in any jeep.

I would have agreed with you if I hadnt been searching this as well. Then l I ran across some full size Jeep tech.

I stand corrected. This is actually pretty funny since I originally thought my T-18 was from a j-truck then I couldnt find any reference to the "B".

The 1B is part of the casting # of his T18A tranny from what I am gathering.

:)That is an early Borg Warner Jeep version T-18 as seen by the PTO being on the left side and the early reverse lever that is attached inside via that shaft that is seen also on the left side of the case.................take the shift cover off and count the input shaft gears inside the case ( first set of teeth attached to the input shaft) No guessing............if its 17 teeth it is a 6:32 low gear.
:D:D:D:D

Looks just like my T-18 . Mine is also stamped 1b, and mine has a 6.32 first. My T-18 /Dana 20 came out of late 70's CJ5 . It appears as though you also have a Dana 20 case, but I'm no expert.

For Jeep Motors the easy answer is ANY of them will fit that tranny. AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , 360 or 402 & if I remember right the same bellhousing is used on all 3. (correct me if I am wrong). Not sure but with a different bellhousing you might be able to put a Ford 302,351 or 390 among others in front of it also. We had a few 1967 - 72 Ford trucks that had the Ford T-18 with those engines in fornt of them. I am not sure how the Jeep & Ford T-18s were different if at all.

I found a rebuilt T-18 years ago before I knew anyting Jeep & picked it up to swap into my 74 CJ5 . One of the best mods I ever did. That thing could climb a tree if you let it & I am running a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Unfortunately my Jeep sees more street time than 4wheeling & that tranny does great just driving around. It also makes it easy to squeal your tires off a light, but be careful you can break gears doing it too often. Granted I have had other issues with the Jeep but the T-18 has never been one of them.

So if i use this Transmission what are my motor options when it comes to a v8 swap.ford chevy ect... and it does have 17 teeth

:)Ok 17 teeth then we all know it is a 6:32 low gear..

The options are endless any V8 or V6 that you can buy adapters or bell housing for.
Go to the Advance or Novak adapters web pages and start reading..............

They have some good info there. The early Borg T-18 Transmission has a narrow bolt pattern unlike the Ford version that was wider. Yours as I noticed has a stud on one side simply because there is no room inside for a bolt next to the clutch fork.

The Bell housing will probably be the determining factor on which way you go. Some after market housings may have the pattern or may be able to be drilled.
Go back to the AMC V-8 or Inline 6 engines and that's a pretty good guarantee.

Be also careful with the input shaft stick out length Jeep had various lengths.............your looking for about 6.5 inches to fit in a normal bell houising without any adapters.

The biggest problem with the C6 is the short wheelbase of a CJ5 . The C6 is a big Transmission and it will make little room for a driveshaft.

And if you're lifted at all, that c6 probably wont work due to driveshaft issues. I'm running a GM 4.3L v6, old chev bellhousing, 11" chev clutch, jeep T-18 11" clutch disc, Novak adapter, jeep T-18 Transmission , then the Dana 20 case. I've got around a 17" rear driveshaft that starts to bind a tiny bit when the axle goes full droop on both sides.

Do i am thinking of doing a CJ7 project instead. I have a ford 390 and a c6 already. but I have been thinking of using a 6.0l or a 5.3. What would you recommend to use and can I use the T-18 with any of these?
