ON THE HUNT AGAIN
Why go with a T-18 when a T19 as I understand it is the same thing but 1st and reverse are synchronized?

Opinions? other info I'm missing?
 
The reason I went with a T-18 is availability and the 1st gear.

What I did want was the 6.32 first gear, good enough for me down here in the south (no rock crawling) with my Dana 20 , mud and trails are what I'm running in. The 5.11 in the T19 kinda turned me off, just not low enough for me when I would be in 1st.
 
Mines being built for rockcrawling also , hence the T-18 . 2nd through 4th are pretty much like a T-150 3 spd then.
 
Per Novak's site:
"The Ford and some Jeep T18s enjoys a very low compound gear at 6.32:1."
"T19 versions offer a 6.32:1 (IH), 5:1 or 4:1 (Ford) low gear."

The only difference I find is the T19 has synchronized 1st.
 
Exactly right, the t19 IH is a pain to find and unlike the Ford needs parts swapped around, I wasn't into that...
 
I have a T-19 out of a '79 ford truck w/ 6.32 low I rebuilt for my Scrambler. The benefit of syncos in 1st gear are questionable. You have to be going so slow anyway.

What motor are you planning to run?
 
i have a muncie M-22 "Rock Crusher" and have no probs with mud or crawling rocks...never experianced any of the T-18 or 19's though
 
Want a T-18 ? I have the ford version with 6.32 1st. pm me if you do.
