Hey everyone to get started I've replaced the rear taillights with some led ones i picked up. before installing my taillights one would always be really bright and wouldn't get much brighter when the brake was pressed and the other would be dim and get much brighter when the brake was pressed. I'm now still in the same situation with my rear driver side running light being really weak. anybody no a way around this or a fix? anything would be appreciated

sounds like a bad ground

It sounds like you have the wires crossed to the bulb on the bright light. The brighter side of the bulb witch should be the brake side is being used as the running light.

i was thinking a bad ground as well. and as i start to trace wires and figure the problem I'm running into other problems. debating if rewiring would be a good idea something ill ponder on until i find this bad ground

If I remember correctly, the taillight ground is created by screwing the taillight mounting screws into the jeep body...there isn't any ground wire.

There's a dedicated gnd wire in each rear fender-well on mine.
IF your OEM lights work'd before the install. I would retrace what/how you did your wiring.

1973 CJ's grounded through the two bolts in the taillight housing. Get the meter out and check some voltages at the bulb socket.

To test the ground connection, just run a jumper wire from the tailight housing to the battery negative. Make sure the light sockets are clean.

Did you replace the bulb with an LED bulb or did you replace the whole setup. All of the LED Light Assemblies that I have seen have a dedicated ground and do not ground through the mounting holes. If any part of the light works, then it is grounded on an LED. Make sure you connected the correct wires as that will make a difference in the brightness of the LED Light. To test the light, use a spare battery and short lead right to the LED wires.
