takin off the tub 74 cj

:jeeplove:Its about to begin... what a good feeling my goal is to be on the trails by next summer so i got lots of work ahead of me . I need some pionters on how to remove the body so i can get to the frame. What do i take off first??? does the motor have to come out ??? the electical ??? under the dash??? where to start??? Thanks for any help anyone can pass on here have a good one ,Derek

Its pretty sight foward. Drain the coolant, pull the battery, and disconnect the wiring to the engine. Disconnect the clutch linkage, emergency brake, and brake lines fron the master, and the radiator hoses and fuel lines at the gas tank. Pull the front fenders and nose. Check for anything else connecting the body to the frame. Pull the body bolts, and lift the body clear.

that dont sound to bad thanks for the run down im gonna get started tonight im gona take some before an after pics as i go i'v never been so excited to do body work my dad had a back yard paint shop my whole life an sanding/grinding/painting was not my favorite thing to do! Until NowIt a JEEP!!!

It's great to see you so excited to get started on your Jeep. I don't know how far you want to take the rebuild, but you may want to gut the tub before you pull it, if you have lots of body work to do. Just take your time, and and don't go nuts tearing it to bits. Get some boxes, label the parts, and put them in there as they come off. Save every bolt and screw as you go and throw nothing away. You may need them for reference later, even if you are goint to replace them. Also, take some time to take pictures as you go. 2 reasons for this. 1-you will have a picture reference if you get stuck during rebuild, and 2- you will have some great memories of when you made your Jeep new again. Don't get discouraged, and don't rush, and in the end you will have a great Jeep you can be proud of!

Don't forget - depending on what kind of hoist you have yo may need to pull the top of the tranny off to clear the shifter... Also - don't forget to pull the access covers for clearance...

i'm down for life this is my prize toy so the rebuild is gona be a good one i'm a broke white boy who has a dream 1974 CJ5 sittin on 35 all froged out!!! If its not done this winter do to cash I'll relax an keep grindin/paintin/dreamin...Thanks guys for all the help

Make sure you take lots of pic's as you go, you will need them later on, at least I did.

But than again I have oldtimers.
